'Modern Family' Casts 8-Year-Old Transgender Actor in Tomorrow's Episode

Modern Family breaks new ground by featuring an openly transgender child actor in an episode called “A Stereotypical Day!”

Eight-year-old Jackson Millarker will play Tom, a friend of Lily’s, who comes over for a play date. When Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) hear Lily insulting Tom, they have to take a look in the mirror before they teach her a lesson about acceptance.

The episode’s director, Ryan Case, took to her Instagram to share the news about the casting and introduce the world to Jackson. “[He] is one of the many reasons I love being part of this show,” she stated.

Jesse also tweeted his happiness about the episode. “Super proud of this week’s episode of @ModernFam! #Equality #ModernFamily,” he boasted.

“A Stereotypical Day” airs on ABC tomorrow (September 28) at 9PM.
