Carolina Herrera's Nephew Murdered After Kidnapping

Fashion designer Carolina Herrera is going through the unthinkable right now after her nephew was kidnapped and murdered in Venezuela.

Reinaldo Herrera, the designer’s 34-year-old nephew, and his business partner Fabrizio Mendoza were kidnapped while eating at a restaurant on Thursday night (May 11) in Caracas.

Even though a ransom was paid to the kidnappers, the men were both killed and their bodies were left in a truck on a highway, according to TMZ.

Carolina is set to receive an award this Monday in Chicago, but it’s not yet known if she’ll still attend the event.

“Thank you so much for all your thoughtful messages,” Carolina wrote on Instagram on Saturday morning (May 13). “The family and I appreciate your kindness. Our only hope is that the tragic assassination of our young nephew, Reinaldo and his colleague, Fabrizio will serve to mitigate the terrible carnage and murders that are committed against our youth in Venezuela. The Electoral Results must be respected. The Communist Dictatorship must go.”
