Kate Middleton Visits World War II Code-Breaking Center

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (AKA Kate Middleton) is paying a visit.

The 37-year-old royal visited Bletchley Park, the secret World War II code-breaking center, on Tuesday (May 14) in Bletchley, United Kingdom.

The place has special importance to Kate: it’s where her paternal grandmother, Valerie Glassborow, and her twin sister, Mary, worked during the war.

“I have always been immensely proud of my grandmother, Valerie Glassborow, who worked at Bletchley Park during the Second World War. She and her twin sister, Mary, served with thousands of other young women as part of the great Allied effort to break enemy codes. They hardly ever talked about their wartime service, but we now know just how important the men and women of Bletchley Park were, as they tackled some of the hardest problems facing the country,” Kate previously said of their service.

The Bletchley Park Teleprinter is hosting an exhibit based on newly declassified information, which shows how the intelligence effort at the center helped in the success of the D-Day landings at Normandy, France.

At the same time, Kate‘s husband Prince William arrived at a United for Wildlife joint taskforce meeting at the Royal Geographical Society in London, United Kingdom.
