Amal Clooney Criticizes Donald Trump's Treatment of the Media
Amal Clooney is speaking out about freedom of the press.
The 41-year-old international human rights lawyer took the stage at the Global Conference for Media Freedom on Wednesday (July 10) and Thursday (July 12) in London, England.
During the event, Amal, who serves as the UK’s Special Envoy on Media Freedom, had critical words for president Donald Trump‘s treatment of the press.
While Amal did not reference Donald by name, she alluded to the current leader of the United States.
“Today, the country of James Madison has a leader who vilifies the media, making honest journalists all over the world more vulnerable to abuse,” Amal said.
She continued, “With authoritarianism, isolationism and nationalism gaining ground, the relevance of international institutions and respect for intentional norms are seriously in question.”
She also spoke of world leader’s response to the death of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed after walking into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
