Here's How 'Handmaid's Tale' Season 2 Got Emmy Noms Again

The third season of The Handmaid’s Tale is not eligible at the 2019 Emmy Awards as it missed the cut-off date, so you might be wondering how the show got nominations this year.

The first season of the Hulu series was eligible back in 2017 and won eight awards. The second season picked up three awards in 2018.

The Handmaid’s Tale‘s second season was still airing when the the Emmy eligibility period ended on May 31, 2018. There were three episodes that missed the cut-off date to be eligible for nominations last year, so those individual episodes were eligible in 2019.

Bradley Whitford received a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, Cherry Jones was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, and Daina Reid was nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. The episodes that were eligible this year were 211, 212, and 213.

Season three will be eligible for awards in 2020.

Other big shows that missed the cut-off date included Stranger Things and Big Little Lies.
