'Homeland' Gets New Final Season Premiere Date

Fans will have to wait a little longer than expected for the eighth and final season of Homeland.

The Showtime series – starring Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin – won’t premiere until February 9, 2020, the network announced on Friday (August 2).

Season seven ran from February to April 2018.

Homeland is an ambitious series, especially in its final season,” Showtime entertainment president Gary Levine said on Friday at TCA (via THR). “[Showrunner] Alex [Gansa] wants to go out proudly, and he’s going to. That has involved production in multiple countries and at times in places that have some issues.”

“It just takes time,” Gary added. “There have been no missteps here; it’s been a relatively smooth process but a very ambitious production schedule that has taken more time than we thought it would. One of the things that we do at Showtime [is a strategy that] we’d rather have it good than fast.”

Production on Homeland‘s final 12 episodes of season eight is currently taking place in Morocco.
