Ivanka Trump Endorses Goya, Possibly Violates Ethics Rule

Ivanka Trump is endorsing Goya – and, by doing so, possibly committing a government ethics violation.

The 38-year-old daughter of President Donald Trump and White House advisor posted a photo of herself holding a can of Goya black beans on Tuesday night (July 14) amid calls for boycotts against the brand due to the CEO’s support of the president, who said we are “all truly blessed” to have a leader like Trump.

“If it’s Goya, it has to be good, Si es Goya, tiene que ser bueno,” she captioned the post, resulting in outrage and mocking from social media.

According to CNN, Ivanka “could have violated a federal ethics rule with her message. The United States Office of Government Ethics, which is aimed at ‘preventing conflicts of interest in the executive branch,’ has guidelines on endorsements. ‘Executive branch employees may not use their Government positions to suggest that the agency or any part of the executive branch endorses an organization (including a nonprofit organization), product, service, or person,’ the office’s guideline says,” the news outlet explains.

A spokeswoman for Ivanka Trump defended the post in a statement: “Ivanka is proud of this strong, Hispanic-owned business with deep roots in the US and has every right to express her personal support,” White House spokeswoman Carolina Hurley said.
