The mission will happen on December 9, and will be the third human flight this year. It will also mark the first with a full astronaut manifest of six crew members in the capsule, via Blue Origin.

The flight is scheduled for 9 a.m. CT on Thursday (December 9) from the company’s “Launch Site One” in the West Texas desert.

He said that when he was invited to be a crew member, he said yes “without hesitation.”

“I want to go to space. I think being there at the first launch, it really was mind-blowing,” he said of reporting on the first launch.

“I believe that this is the way of being innovative, creative, pioneers in aviation, now space travel. And it’s going to take a while but I do believe that it will bring a lot of technological breakthroughs and also innovations to us here on Earth, and I just want to be a part of it,” he continued.

He will be joining Laura Shepard Churchley, the oldest daughter of Alan Shepard, the first American to fly to space and the namesake of New Shepard.

Space industry exec and philanthropist Dylan Taylor, investor Evan Dick, and Bess Ventures founder Lane Bess and his child, Cameron, will also be part of the crew. Lane and Cameron Bess will become the first parent-child pair to fly in space.

He and the crew have spoken over Zoom and will meet in Texas soon for trainings and safety briefings.

“To see the excitement to do this, to come together, you really feel like you’re part of a great team,” Michael said.

He will also receive a stipend, which is being donated to The Boys & Girls Club.

Jeff Bezos was among the crew on Blue Origin’s first human flight, while William Shatner flew on the second. Jeff made headlines earlier this month for a different reason involving another celebrity – find out why!
