Adele's '30' Becomes Top-Selling Album of the Year During First Week of Release

Adele is at the top of the Billboard 200 chart!

The 33-year-old singer’s new album 30 debut at number one on the latest albums chart for the week ending November 25.

Adele easily earned the biggest debut of the year and she also has the top-selling album of 2021 after just one week of release.

30 made its chart debut with 839,000 equivalent album units, according to Billboard. The previous biggest week of the year was for Drake‘s Certified Lover Boy, which earned 613,000 units back in September.

Comprising that 839k number are sales of 692,000 albums, streaming equivalent album unit of 141,000, and track equivalent album units of 6,000.

Billboard notes that “each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. ”

Taylor Swift‘s Evermore, which was released in 2020, was previously the top-selling album of 2021 with 471,000 copies sold in 2021. Now, Adele holds that title with 692,000 copies sold.

Breaking down the sales number of 692k are 378,000 physical CDs, 205,000 digital downloads, 108,000 vinyl LPs, and just under 2,000 cassette tapes.
