Jussie Smollett Gets Support From Sister Jurnee at First Day of Trial in Chicago

Jussie Smollett arrives for the first day of his trial at the Leighton Courts Building in Chicago, Ill., on Monday (November 29).

The 39-year-old former Empire star was supported by his family, including sister Jurnee Smollett, and legal team as they ascended the steps of the court for the first day of jury selection.

Jussie was arrested and charged by the city of Chicago and is accused of lying to police when he reported that two masked men physically and verbally attacked him, yelling racist and anti-gay remarks near his Chicago home in 2019.

While his legal team has tried to dismiss the case against Jussie, a judge denied the motion, Jussie has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
