Paul Bettany Discusses Those Disturbing Texts with Johnny Depp Again, Gives Context to the Situation

Paul Bettany has spoken out again about his private messages with Johnny Depp, which were made public as part of Depp‘s libel court case.

The disturbing text messages were reportedly sent back in 2013 and they included some graphic mentions of Johnny‘s ex-wife Amber Heard.

Johnny reportedly texted Paul and said, “Let’s burn Amber!!!”

Paul reportedly replied, “Having thought it through I don’t think we should burn Amber – she’s delightful company and easy on the eye, plus I’m not sure she’s a witch. We could of course try the English course of action in these predicaments ­– we do a drowning test. Thoughts?”

Johnny‘s reported response was, “Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! I will f*** her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”

Paul addressed the messages in an interview two months ago and they were just brought up again.

While chatting with U.K. outlet The Times, Paul gave some context for the situation. He called the incident “embarrassing” and said the court case was “a very surreal moment.”

Paul says he “didn’t know Johnny when he was married to” Amber.

“I knew him before. But we hadn’t spoken for years. During the marriage I didn’t know them. So I wasn’t around for any of that,” Paul said. “We live in a world without context.”

Paul added, “I know how this works. Anything that you say is oxygen for a fire. And there’s just no f–king fire. The only real way to deal with this elegantly is to say: I’m not sure there’s anybody who has [a smartphone] that would feel comfortable having a team of lawyers scour their private text messages.”

Johnny‘s defamation case against Amber is moving forward and his lawyers recently subpoenaed a famous actor for a deposition.
