Lady Gaga's Dog Walker Ryan Fischer Testifies About 2021 Armed Robbery, Recounts Hitting Attackers with Champagne Bottle

Lady Gaga‘s dog walker Ryan Fischer is speaking out.

Last year, Ryan was almost fatally injured when he was attacked walking Lady Gaga‘s two dogs, who were kidnapped and eventually rescued.

Rolling Stone has obtained newly unsealed grand jury transcript that reveals the dog walker appeared in a secret grand jury proceeding in Los Angeles on Oct. 26, 2021, where he testified about the incident.

Ryan said he was “confused at first” when the suspects now charged with his attempted murder pulled a gun on him and demand he hand over the singer’s three dogs: Asia, Gustav and Koji.

“They pointed down to the dogs, that they wanted the dogs, and I said, ‘No.’ And I started to scream for help and tried to fight back,” he testified.

He said the man with the gun “threw” him into a concrete embankment and “began to choke me.” Ryan then recounted hitting the man with a bottle of champagne he had purchased at a nearby store, at which point he broke free and tried to grab Koji.

“The dog screamed at me, and I reached for him, and then the guy, the man with the gun shot me as I was reaching,” Ryan testified, adding that he collapsed on the ground as his attackers fled the scene with Gustav and Koji in a white Nissan Sentra.

“I immediately tried to call for help but realized I was bleeding out of my lung and that I was losing more and more air quickly,” he said.

Ryan explained that he used hand signals to tell Asia to hide during the attack and after he was shot, the dog ran to his side. He then “tried to project as much as possible in a calm manner to get people out of their houses to ask for help,” he testified.

The dog walker shared that the bullet entered “right next to my brachial plexus and the collar bone area” and he said that “it went through my lung because I was reaching forward, trying to grab Koji.”

He was subsequently taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he spent a week under the fake name Randy Goodwin. He was then discharged, but returned after two days because his “lung had collapsed again.” After a “few” procedures with “chest tubes being placed in and out,” Ryan needed another major surgery, he told the grand jury.

“I consented to part of my lung being removed. The top third of my lung being removed as well as the bottom portion as well,” he testified, adding that his recovery has been challenging. Ryan said he still struggles with “breathing issues” as well as numbness in his chest. He also has been undergoing constant physical therapy to prevent scar tissue from strangling the nerves affecting his mobility, particularly in his right arm down to his fingers. “When I go from the ground up to stand, I have to, I still get very close to passing out,” he testified. “So I have to take a moment with that.”

Ryan never brought up Lady Gaga by name during his testimony, but did answer a few questions about her.

When sked at the start of his testimony if he was “a longtime friend of the pop singer Lady Gaga,” he answered, “I am.”

“Do you take care of her dogs when she’s out of town?” he was then asked. “I do,” he replied.

“As you have learned, this is related to the shooting of Lady Gaga’s dog walker. Lady Gaga was not present, so she will not be testifying,” Deputy District Attorney Michele Hanisee said in her opening statement. “There is no evidence that you will hear that suggests the suspects knew these dogs belonged to Lady Gaga. All the evidence indicates that they were targeting French bulldogs due to the value of the breed and the desire to own that particular breed.”

She went on to say that the suspects charged with attempted murder — alleged shooter James Jackson, 19, and his alleged accomplices Jaylin White, 20, and Lafayette Whaley, 28 — were found after surveillance video of Nissan Sentra’s license plate was captured at a nearby 7-Eleven. Video of the rental car used to defendant Jennifer McBride, who allegedly was a friend of Jaylin‘s dad and reportedly returned the dogs to police days later after claiming she found them tied to a pole outside, was also uncovered.

Michele added that indicate that a few hours before the shooting took place, James, Jaylin and Lafayette‘s phones were detected traveling together in West Hollywood. The prosecutor also told the grand jury that Jaylin‘s father admitted to investigators that “there were some dogs in my backyard at some point.”

Ryan opened up about the attack in an interview last fall, where he discussed his ongoing recovery.
