Colin Kaepernick Says He's Willing to Return to the NFL as Backup QB: 'I Know I Have to Find My Way Back In'

Colin Kaepernick is getting candid about his future in the NFL.

In an interview with I Am Athlete, the 34-year-old football star shared that he wants to play football again and said he’d be open to returning to the league in a smaller role.

Brandon Marshall asked if Colin would consider taking a similar role to Carmelo Anthony in the NBA, where he played for the team in a smaller capacity.

“I know I have to find my way back in. So if I have to come in as a backup, that’s fine,” Colin said. “But that’s not where I’m staying. And when I prove that I’m a starter, I want to be able to step on the field as such.”

He also added, “I just need that opportunity to walk through the door.”

Colin began kneeling during the national anthem in the 2016 season as a way to protest police brutality and racial injustice. He subsequently opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers and has not signed with a team since.
