Steven Spielberg Addresses Negative Impact 'Jaws' Had On Sharks & His Regrets From the Movie

Steven Spielberg had to issue an apology to an unexpected demographic – all the sharks in the ocean.

The famed director responsible for classic blockbusters including E.T., Jurassic Park and his deep-sea terror Jaws opened up about the hit movie in a new interview on BBC’s Desert Island Discs.

In the process, he shared his regrets from Jaws.

“I truly and to this day regret the decimation of the shark population because of the book and the film. I really, truly regret that,” he said during the interview, according to the New York Post.

Steven added that “one of the things I still fear” was that “sharks are somehow mad at me for the feeding frenzy of crazy sports fishermen that happened after 1975 [when Jaws was released].”

If you weren’t aware, Jaws was inspired by a book of the same name from author Peter Benchley.

The famed director released a very different type of project earlier this year.

Speaking of famed directors, another went to great lengths to disprove a popular fan theory.
