Prince Harry Details His & Prince William's Physical Fight in 'Spare': 'He Knocked Me To The Floor'

Prince Harry is getting candid about a physical encounter between him and his brother, Prince William, in his new book, “Spare”.

The 38-year-old Duke of Sussex is set to release his new memoir next week, and in an excerpt from the book, via The Guardian, is detailing the fight between them that happened after William had reportedly called Meghan Markle, Harry‘s wife, “difficult, rude and abrasive.”

The excerpt reveals that the altercation happened in 2019 at Harry’s then residence at the time, Nottingham Cottage, where William had come to Harry about his relationship with Meghan at the time and how it was impacting the royal family as an institution.

Harry wrote that William had wanted to talk to him about the “rolling catastrophe” and struggles with the press, however, he notes that William was “piping hot”.

William had complained to Harry about Meghan, and he told his brother that he was rehashing what the press was already reporting, and Harry expected better. That’s when a shouting match started between the two.

Harry notes that as the words “heir” and “spare” were tossed in the shouting, William was unable to understand why he wasn’t happy to just be the spare.

William has also claimed he was trying to help, but Harry recalls telling him, “Are you serious? Help me? Sorry – is that what you call this? Helping me?”

His comment further angered William, and he attempted to cool himself and William down with glasses of water. It didn’t help though, as he told William he couldn’t “speak to you when you’re like this.”

“He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor,” Harry wrote in the book. “I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”

After knocking him down, William left him there, but returned “looking regretful, and apologized” before suggesting that he didn’t “need to tell Meg about this.”

Harry did not tell Meghan, at least not at first – but did call his therapist.

Meghan did notice “scrapes and bruises” on his back later on, and that’s when he told her what had happened.

“[She] wasn’t that surprised, and wasn’t all that angry,” Harry writes. “She was terribly sad.”

“Spare” is due out on bookshelves on January 10.

If you missed them, Harry detailed more drama with William in his and Meghan‘s Netflix docu-series.

He also just opened up about if he’s looking to reconcile with William and their father, King Charles.
