Nicholas Hoult Talks Being Rejected by 2 Blockbusters & the Role He Told Tom Cruise He Couldn't Take

The 33-year-old actor is currently sharing the screen with Nicolas Cage in Renfield. However, in a new interview he revealed that he was rejected from two blockbusters and had to pass on another. The final one involved telling Tom Cruise no.

Nicholas also revealed what sort of role he’d like to tackle in the near future!

In an interview with The Guardian, Nicholas reflected on his two big rejections that came one after the other.

“I screen-tested for Batman and didn’t get it. Screen-tested for Top Gun, didn’t get it,” he shared. It’s not immediately clear what roles he was up for in either. However, Robert Pattinson was cast as the titular hero in The Batman. Top Gun: Maverick starred the likes of Miles Teller and Glen Powell.

Then came the role he had to let go of: “I got the call from Tom Cruise: ‘Hey, how about Mission Impossible?’ OK. Got it. Then I had to drop out because I was already attached to do some more of The Great.”

After dabbling in horror in Renfield, which is a Dracula story, Nicholas would like something a little lighter in his future.

“I would like to go do a romcom,” he told the outlet, “though maybe not as a romantic lead: it sounds like there’s slightly less to explore with those characters. But maybe people just don’t think of me like that, maybe I don’t get sent the good ones. I’d love to pretend it’s all my doing, but it’s more about when things align and when directors cast you.”
