Sweden's Loreen Wins Eurovision 2023, Joins an Elite Group of Competitors With More Than 1 Win to Their Names

Loreen is making history at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest!

The Swedish competitor emerged victorious in the annual song competition, netting her a second win and elevating her to an elite category of two-time victors.

Loreen‘s original song “Tattoo” earned her 583 points in the contest, according to Variety. Her closest competitor was Finland’s Käärijä, who earned 526 points.

Her first win was in 2012 with her song “Euphoria.” She represented Sweden then, too. She is the first person to achieve multiple Eurovision wins since Johnny Logan won for Ireland in 1980 and 1987, according to Metro.

With her win, Sweden also ties Ireland as the most-awarded country at Eurovision. Both countries have won the contest seven times.

It’s a safe bet that Sweden will host the contest in 2024. It is generally customary that the winning country takes over hosting duties the next year; however, the United Kingdom hosted this year after Ukraine’s win in 2022 due to the ongoing war.

Congratulations to Loreen, Sweden and all of the other competitors!
