Rita Ora Shares Details About Her & Taika Waititi's Lowkey Wedding, Including How Quickly She Planned the Day & Who Was There

Rita Ora and Taika Waititi confirmed that they tied the knot earlier this year. Now, the pop star is sharing some details about their very laidback special day.

The 32-year-old “For You” hitmaker faced rumors about her relationship for months before fans knew they got married. As it turns out, the rumors circulated longer than it took for her to plan the wedding and walk down the aisle.

She broke down the experience in a new interview.

“Well, honestly, there was no real getting down on one knee. It was more like, ‘I want to marry you. Let’s just do it,’” Rita told Glamour UK about when Taika popped the question.

She knew right away that they didn’t need a big affair of a wedding.

“Some women like to feel that real special attention that day. And everyone’s different. And for me – I think with my job, it is all… it’s very attention driven – I wanted to keep it private because my life and my career aren’t,” she explained.

Instead, they organized it “in two to three days” and had a very exclusive guestlist.

“His kids [Taika has two daughters from a previous marriage] were there and I really wanted them to be a part of it. It was either then or we had to wait for ages. I didn’t want to do it without my stepkids there. So, we just figured it out and we did it. And it was perfect,” she recalled. “My sister was there, which was amazing for me. And he had his girls there, which was amazing for him. It was a dream. My parents were on Zoom.”

She didn’t tell her friends until after the fact. “No one knew. No one was surprised. They were like, ‘I’m so happy for you. And when can we just throw a big rager,’” Rita said.

Rita also reacted to critics of her bold style, calling it an example of misogyny.
