While appearing in an on-camera interview with Unilad, Tom got honest about the reviews, and turned it around into what critics and fans alike can take from the series beyond whether they liked or disliked it.

“It’s no secret that my show has been so horribly reviewed,” he said, but then added that “the message of the show, which can address various issues, is that asking for help should be celebrated in our society. It’s an act of bravery.”

Tom added that it’s the recognition of getting help that most should be focusing on.

“If we can somehow empower people to say, ‘I’m not feeling good, I really need some help,’ then we’ve achieved our goal.”

Emmy Rossum, who plays his mom on screen, also addressed the backlash of her playing his mother despite having a small age gap between them.
