HGTV-Owned 'Brady Bunch' House Sells Well Below Asking Price

HGTV took more than a $2 million hit when they sold off the iconic Brady Bunch house, which they purchased in 2018.

The popular design network renovated the property with the assistance of Property Brothers stars Drew and Jonathan Scott on their show A Very Brady Renovation. They also got assistance from several stars from the beloved television series.

After four months on the market this year, they sold the property for a hit.

According to The Wall Street Journal, HGTV sold the property for $3.2 million, less than the $3.5 million they originally bought it for. They also put about $2 million into the home while renovating, leading to a $5.5 million asking price.

Tina Trahan, a fan of the original series and wife of former HBO chief executive Chris Albrecht, purchased the home and will utilize it for “fundraising and charitable events.”

Despite selling for well under asking price, HGTV’s listing agent, Danny Brown, told TV Line that they were not upset with the result.

“This is a one of kind property which was impossible to comp. This is not a home anyone would ever live in, and savvy investors understand that Airbnb rental laws are nuanced and restrictive. We felt the property was worth about $3-$3.5 million and that’s exactly where it landed,” he explained. “There are no intellectual property rights that are included in the sale.”

Why the higher list price? “HGTV spent about $5.5 million purchasing and gutting the house which is why we listed it at $5.5 million, even though we knew it was an aspirational list price,” Danny said.

Back in 2018, HGTV competed with a very famous musician to purchase the house.
