Leslie Jones Reveals Chris Rock Went to Counseling After Will Smith's Oscars Slap, Says 'It Really Affected Him'

Leslie Jones is sharing her thoughts on the infamous Oscars slap.

During the 2022 Oscars, Chris Rock was slapped across the face by Will Smith after he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith.

In a new interview, Leslie revealed that the very public incident “really affected” Chris.

“That s–t was humiliating,” Leslie told People. “It really affected him. People need to understand his daughters, his parents, saw that. He had to go to counseling with his daughters.”

Chris shares his two daughters – Lola, 21, and Zahra, 19 – with ex-wife Malaak Compton-Rock.

Leslie – who has been close friends with Chris since the ’90s – wasn’t at the Oscars that night, but she did admit that watching the incident unfold on TV at home enraged her.

“You don’t know that I was going to jump in my car and roll up there,” Leslie said. “I was so f–king mad on so many levels.”

“Chris Rock did a f–king joke.” Leslie added. “I know Will, too… I was like, you couldn’t handle that s–t afterwards. This is the Oscars. The whole world is watching.”

After the incident, Leslie recalled telling Chris, “I was like, ‘Chris, when he got up why didn’t you run?’ I would’ve been running around that stage like ‘Will, calm down. Jada, call your man!’”

Leslie also criticized how Will handled acted after the slap.

“He could have still fixed it,” Leslie said of Will, who returned to the stage later in the ceremony to accept the Best Actor award for his role in King Richard.

Leslie said that if she was Will, she would have said, “‘I shouldn’t have did that. Bring Chris out. I can not accept the Oscar right now because that was f–king wrong.’”
