Ariana and Demi are longtime friends. They shared the same manager, Scooter, up until they both parted ways with him in 2023.

When Demi was hospitalized following a drug overdose in July 2018, Ariana showed her support. The singer wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “I love u @ddlovato.”

In 2021, they released a duet that Ariana wrote with Demi in mind called “Met Him Last Night.” The track, which details struggles with addiction and the recovery journey, is featured on Demi‘s album, Dancing with the Devil.

“She’s a close friend of mine, so she knew my story pretty well,” Demi said about the collab during an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up. “And so when she started writing this song, she actually thought about me and…then she played it for me. And I was like, ‘I love it. Like, you should just stay on the track.’”
