Anthony Anderson Opens the 2023 Emmy Awards With Monologue & Musical Performance!

Anthony Anderson is taking over the stage!

The 53-year-old star kicked off his hosting duties at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday (January 15) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

The show started with a musical number paying tribute to hit TV theme songs alongside his mother, Doris Bowman, Blink-182’s Travis Barker, and actress Christina Applegate, who previously revealed her MS diagnosis.

The opening was set in his “living room” after a title card for “Mister Anderson’s Neighborhood.” The songs included themes from Good Times, The Facts of Life and Miami Vice.

The comedian brought his mother into the opening bit, saying she’s responsible for cutting people’s acceptance speeches off when they go too long – and then she cut off Anthony for making the joke go on too long.

He later brought out Christina to a standing ovation, with the actress joking, “You are totally shaming me with disability by standing up,” before handing out the night’s first award.

This is actually the 2023 Emmy Awards show, which was scheduled to take place in September. The ceremony was delayed due to the Hollywood labor disputes, so it was added to the awards season calendar on a Monday night. The Emmys will air live on Fox with Anthony Anderson hosting the event.
