The 32-year-old Vampire Diaries actress is engaged to 52-year-old director and producer Darren Genet, People confirmed on Wednesday (May 4).

He proposed to Kat during a vacation in Mexico for his birthday a few weeks ago, according to a source. Her rep later confirmed the happy news to the outlet.

“Kat is madly in love and couldn’t be happier,” the source tells People.

The couple began dating in 2017 after they met on set, and have kept their relationship largely private, only appearing a handful of times at public events.

Although Darren Genet worked on The Vampire Diaries, the source clarified that the couple didn’t meet while producing The CW show.
