Netflix has exclusive comedy specials with big stars like Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais, but the streaming service has faced backlash for working with them due to transphobic jokes included in the specials.

Now, the company’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos is defending the comedians again amid all of the backlash.

Ted did an interview with The New York TimesMaureen Dowd in which he said that comedians have to cross “the line every once in a while” to figure out where the line is.

Isaiah Lee, 23, was arrested and pled not guilty to attacking the comedian onstage at the Hollywood Bowl earlier this month during a stand-up set.

Dave Chappelle's Hollywood Bowl Show Will Not Get a Netflix Release, Attack Not the Reason Though

Dave Chappelle made headlines last week when he was attacked on stage during his show at the Hollywood Bowl, but it doesn’t seem like we’re going to see the professional footage anytime soon.

It has confirmed that the show, which was part of the Netflix Is a Joke Fest, will not appear on the streaming service’s upcoming lineup of comedy specials.

THR reports that the absence from the lineup “isn’t due to the assault.”
