Harvey Weinstein Jury Reaches Verdict: Guilty of Rape

Harvey Weinstein‘s jury has reached a verdict on Monday (February 24) in a New York City courthouse: he has been found guilty of rape and criminal sexual acts. He was found not guilty of sexual predatory assault.

Specifically, he was found guilty of criminal sexual assault in the first degree in relation to the attack against Miriam “Mimi” Haleyi and rape in the third degree in relation to the attack of Jessica Mann.

The 12-person jury, made up of 7 men and 5 women, spent 22 hours deliberating total since they began deliberations last Tuesday.

Harvey Weinstein plead not guilty on all five counts of rape and sexual assault.

According to USA Today, Weinstein‘s “mouth was agape as the verdict was read” and his attorney was shaking her head.”

He will be sentenced at a later date. He faces five to 25 years in prison for the criminal sexual assault charge and 18 months to four years for the third-degree rape conviction. The sexual predatory assault charge carried a life sentence, but he was acquitted of this charge.

He also has a sexual misconduct trial in Los Angeles pending involving two women.

Last week, it was thought the jury could be deadlocked on a few of the charges.

Harvey Weinstein Jury Is Possibly Deadlocked on Two Charges

The latest update in the Harvey Weinstein trial is that the jury is possibly deadlocked on two charges.

The jury has been deliberating this week and they reached a partial verdict. The jurors wrote a note to the judge that said, “We the jury ask if we can be hung on counts one and three, and unanimous on the others.”

A partial verdict will not be accepted in this case and the judge told the jury to keep deliberating, though they were dismissed a half hour later for the weekend. Deliberations will continue on Monday, according to Deadline.

The two charges that the jury is deadlocked on are charges of predatory sexual assault against two women. Miriam Haleyi says that Weinstein forced oral sex on her in a hotel room in 2006 and Jessica Mann says that she was raped by Weinstein in a hotel room in 2013.

The Sopranos actress Annabella Sciorra, who says she was raped by the disgraced movie mogul 27 years ago, was able to testify, though her allegation is too old to prosecute.

Rosie Perez Testifies in Weinstein Trial to Back Up Annabella Sciorra's Claims

Rosie Perez leaves the court house after testifying in the Harvey Weinstein trial on Friday (January 24) in New York City.

The 55-year-old Birds of Prey actress was there to back up her friend Annabella Sciorra‘s claim that she was raped by Weinstein in the 1990s.

Rosie testified that Annabella told her she was raped during a phone call some time in 1993.

“She said something bad happened and she said, ‘I think I was raped,’ and her voice started shaking,” Rosie testified (via NBC News). “She started crying.”

It wasn’t until months later that Annabella finally told Rosie that her assaulter was Weinstein. Rosie told Annabella to go to the police, but she said, “I can’t. He’d destroy me.”

Annabella Sciorra Testifies Against Harvey Weinstein & Describes Alleged Rape

Annabella Sciorra is speaking out against Harvey Weinstein.

The Sopranos actress testified in court on Thursday (January 23) against the film producer in New York City.

According to multiple reports, she began choking up and fighting back tears while recounting the alleged rape in the early 1990s, which Harvey denies.

“As I was trying to get him off of me — I was punching him, I was kicking him — and he took my hands and put them over my head, he put my hands over my head to hold them back and he got on top of me and he raped me. He put his penis inside my vagina. He had intercourse while I was trying to fight but I couldn’t fight anymore because he had my hands locked,” she said.

“At a certain point, he stopped. He came out of me and he ejaculated on top of me, on my nightgown. He said, ‘I have perfect timing.’ And then he proceeded to put his mouth on my vagina and before he did that, he said, ‘This is for you,’” she reportedly testified.

“And I didn’t have very much fight left inside me at this point. I said, ‘No, no.’ But there was not much I could do at that point. My body shut down. It was just so disgusting that my body started to shake in a way that was very unusual. I didn’t even really know what was happening. It was like a seizure or something.”

If convicted, Harvey could be sentenced to life in prison. He has denied the allegations against him and previously pleaded not guilty to the New York charges.

Here's How Harvey Weinstein's Defense Lawyers Are Trying to Undermine Accusers' Credibility

Harvey Weinstein‘s defense lawyers are claiming that his accusers “bragged” about having affairs with him.

The 67-year-old disgraced producer left with his attorney Donna Rotunno at New York City Criminal Court on Tuesday (January 21) in New York City, a day before opening arguments in his rape trial.

Defense lawyer Damon Cheronis said that Harvey‘s team will use dozens of “loving emails” to attempt to suggest that the sexual incidents were consensual, The New York Times reports.

“What we will be able to show is that witnesses who claim Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulted them also bragged about being involved in sexual relations with him,” Damon said. “They bragged about these things he allegedly forced them to do.”

The lead prosecutor, Joan Illuzzi, called this claim “blatantly inaccurate.”

Harvey Weinstein has pleaded not guilty on five counts of rape and sexual assault against two unnamed women, facing a possible life sentence in prison.
