Hulk Hogan Speaks Out After Winning Trial Against Gawker

Hulk Hogan is speaking out for the first time after winning $140 million in a lawsuit against Gawker.

The 62-year-old former wrestler sued the media company for posting a sex tape filmed without his consent.

“I was relieved that people actually finally believe me,” Hulk told People. “So many people thought I was making a sex tape to sell as entertainment.”

Hogan says he didn’t realize until after he had left the courtroom that he had been awarded the huge monetary sum, some of which was later added in more damages.

The reason Hulk went through with the lawsuit was to “let people know what Gawker is all about, come what may and that means no matter what. I think I accomplished that, whether I win or lose or get rewarded with some type of financial assistance or not. At the end of the day, I accomplished my mission and that was to let people know what Gawker is doing and that they’re not legitimate journalists and this is not trying to destroy the First Amendment – we’re trying to protect the First Amendment.”

“It was an invasion of privacy and it was just something I wanted people to know that this is not right,” Hogan added. “It was never about trying to destroy – it was about trying to make things the way they were supposed to be.”

Hulk Hogan Awarded $25 Million More in Damages, Gawker Responds

Pro wrestler Hulk Hogan (whose birth name is Terry Bollea) was just awarded $25 million in additional money for damages in his lawsuit against Gawker media, totaling to $140.1 million.

The $25 million breaks down to $15 million from Gawker, $10 million from the owner of Gawker, Nick Denton, and $100,000 from former Gawker editor in chief A.J. Daulerio. He was awarded $125 million last week in damages as well.

Hulk first filed the case three years ago after the site posted a video of Hulk having a sexual relations with Heather Cole, the then-wife of his best friend.

“$115 million is punishment enough,” Gawker attorney Mike Berry said (via THR). “The amount you have rendered in your verdict is already far beyond their means…that amount is debilitating..my clients have heard your decision.”

Gawker general counsel Heather Dietrick released a statement after the additional decision, “There is so much this jury deserved to know and, fortunately, that the appeals court does indeed know. So we are confident we will win this case ultimately based on not only on the law but also on the truth.”

The post includes the video, which Hulk claims was secretly recorded, and an essay that included a vivid play-by-play of the encounter.

“It’s turned my world upside down,” he said while under oath.

The unique case brought forth issues between the First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of the press, and the Fourteenth Amendment, which guarantees a right to privacy under equal protection of life, liberty and property. Gawker plans to appeal the case.

Hulk Hogan is speaking out for the first time about the racism scandal that caused him to be fired from the WWE.

“I’m not a racist, but I never should have said what I said. It was wrong. I’m embarrassed by it,” the 62-year-old former wrestler said on Good Morning America.

Hulk revealed that he contemplated suicide around the time when the recording that featured his racial epithets, which was recently leaked, was taped.

“I was at the lowest point of my life to the point where I wanted to kill myself,” Hogan said. “I was completely broken and destroyed and said, ‘What’s the easiest way out of this?’ I mean, I was lost.”

Hulk Hogan Releases Apology, Says He Resigned from WWE

Hulk Hogan has released an apology statement following the news that WWE terminated his contract after racist remarks surfaced.

“Eight years ago I used offensive language during a conversation. It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it; and I apologize for having done it,” the 61-year-old former wrestler told People.

“This is not who I am. I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise,” Hogan continued. “I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs.”

Despite the organization saying it terminated his contract, Hogan‘s lawyer told People that “he decided to resign from WWE because he didn’t want to put them or his family through this.”
