Hugh Jackman happily hits the red carpet alongside his wife Deborra-lee Furness while attending the 2018 Santa Barbara International Film Festival at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara on Monday (November 19) in Goleta, Calif.

The 50-year-old actor was also joined by his Front Runner director Jason Reitman and co-star J.K. Simmons who helped honor him with the Kirk Douglas Award at the ceremony.

Hugh hit the stage and teared up while talking about his wife Deborra, saying she taught him that life is “not defined” by highlight reels, like the ones shown throughout the night’s tribute.

“Life actually happens in between that. Life happens when the camera is not going,” Hugh expressed (via Variety). “You believed in me when I couldn’t. You’ve loved me with a passion and a depth that I didn’t even know existed — and I don’t think I felt that I deserved. You have pushed and encouraged me when I was scared to venture out. You have smiled me into smiling. You have sung me into singing. You have loved me into loving and like everything I do in my life, I share this with you. I love you.”

Hugh Jackman stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night (November 12) to promote his new film The Front Runner, but took the opportunity to discuss Stan Lee after he tragically passed away at the age of 95.

If you don’t know, Stan created some of the biggest superhero characters for Marvel, including X-Men.

“If you ever want to get a real understanding of where you’re at in the world, and you think, ‘I’m Wolverine, I’m walking into Comic-Con, this my spot, this is a good day for me,’” Hugh recalled. “And I was on a red carpet and I was the only one on there, and no one was taking my photo because at the other end was Stan Lee. There was about 300 photographers and interviewers all on Stan.”

“I remember Stan as a true gentlemen, who had this glint in his eye,” Hugh added. “He’s a creative genius, he thought outside the box, he created a whole universe that changed the lives of many people, mine included.”

That same evening, Hugh joined his co-star Mamoudou Athie, writer Jay Carson and director-writer Jason Reitman at the Yahoo News and Sony Pictures private screening of The Front Runner held at The Metrograph.

The two attended a Q&A following a screening as part of the Variety Screening Series.

In the movie, which hits theaters on November 21, American Senator Gary Hart‘s (Jackman) presidential campaign in 1988 is derailed when he’s caught in a scandalous love affair.

Vera Farmiga and J.K. Simmons also co-star in the movie.

Inside the premiere, Hugh took to Instagram to share a photo of himself and Jason backstage celebrating their film.

“Awesome celebration with @jasonreitman and the ENTIRE cast and crew of @frontrunnermovie #nypremiere @themuseumofmodernart @92ndstreety #grateful,” Hugh captioned the below photo.

The trailer for the upcoming movie The Front Runner, starring Hugh Jackman as politician Gary Hart, has arrived!

The movie is the latest from Oscar-nominated director Jason Reitman and it’s hitting theaters just in time for awards season.

The film follows the rise and fall of Senator Hart, who captured the imagination of young voters and was considered the overwhelming front runner for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination when his campaign was sidelined by the story of an extramarital relationship with Donna Rice (Sara Paxton). As tabloid journalism and political journalism merged for the first time, Senator Hart was forced to drop out of the race – events that left a profound and lasting impact on American politics and the world stage.

Also starring in the movie are Vera Farmiga, JK Simmons, Alfred Molina, and Kaitlyn Dever. It will be released on November 7.
