Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell, who met on the January 2016 season of The Bachelor, have split up.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways,” they tell People in a statement. “We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time.”

Ben, 29, chose Lauren, 27, over future Bachelorette JoJo Fletcher and the couple began their journey. They had a Freeform reality show Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After? Ben and Lauren have faced constant relationship rumors since they went public.

Ben Higgins is shutting down rumors that he and Lauren Bushnell have called it quits.

The 28-year-old former Bachelor took to Instagram to reaffirm his love.

“No need to respond often to rumors or ‘fake news’ but the feeling I have in this picture is the same feeling I have for this girl today,” Ben wrote. “We have entered into a world where rumors will exist we know that, but just know as @laurenbushnell celebrates her birthday tomorrow I am still extremely lucky to be able to share life with her and be by her side. ”

“A breakup has been coming for awhile,” Us Weekly originally reported. “They don’t get along. She’s told people recently how hard it is. He’s a great guy, but they should split.”

Ben decided to call off their wedding back in November 2016, but they stayed together.

Ever since news broke that Bachelor couple Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell called off their wedding, fans have been wondering if they will be married soon…or if they are headed for a split.

Extra caught up with the couple and asked if they have a wedding date.

“Oh, gosh, the million-dollar question!” Lauren said.

“I think at this point, Lauren and I are focusing on our relationship, which is obvious. We’re definitely together – we are happily engaged. The wedding in our mind – ‘Where’s your ring at?’ – is still on, but we are just taking some time to help plan that where it’s not stressful or overwhelming,” Ben chimed in. “Any couple feels the same pressures – you get engaged, and everyone asks when is the wedding. … We’ve navigated it relatively well and [are] doing things on our own timeline, honestly.”

“The show [Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?] is stressful, it’s hard. … One thing Lauren and I have learned, we really need to focus on taking time as a couple to do things,” Ben added.

Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell are celebrating their one-year anniversary just a few days after announcing that they have called off their wedding.

The Bachelor couple got engaged on the reality show one year ago and although they’re not walking down the aisle soon, they say they’re better than ever.

“One year ago today I proposed to @laurenbushnell and even with the normal relational speed bumps our relationship has continued to mold us both into better partners and better people. I am lucky to have her, we are doing very well!” Ben wrote on his Instagram.

On Twitter he added, “One year ago today I started my life with @LaurenBushnell3 and we are better today than ever before.”

The Bachelor fans were quite surprised when Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell revealed that they were calling off their wedding during the most recent episode of Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?.

Ben revealed that he didn’t want to rush into things and Lauren was very hurt by this revelation.

Still, the couple remains together.

It looks like a wedding between The Bachelor‘s Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell won’t be happening anytime soon.

During the latest episode of Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?, the couple revealed that they had called off the wedding during a couples therapy session.

While Ben expressed that he wants to marry Lauren eventually, he explained that he didn’t want to rush things, especially since the process had been so nontraditional.

“The wedding’s off…I think this thing sped up real fast, and we haven’t had a second to breathe,” Ben expressed.

Lauren went on to explain that she was totally blindsided and hurt by Ben‘s comments as she had left her life and job in LA to come live in Denver with him.

Although the couple haven’t split, the wedding is officially off for now.

We hope Ben and Lauren are able to work through this!

The couple got engaged on the previous season of The Bachelor and the new show will air on ABC’s sister network Freeform.
