Nick Robinson stars in the new movie Love, Simon about a high-school student’s coming out journey and fans might be wondering if the actor is gay or straight in real life.

The 22-year-old actor confirmed in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that he is straight.

Ellen asked Nick if he hesitated at all to play a gay character and he said that he went back and forth with director Greg Berlanti about it. He also credited Ellen‘s coming out over 20 years ago with the progress that allowed a film like this to hit the big screen.

During the interview, Nick also opened up about how his brother came out to him and his family right when he started filming Love, Simon.

The new movie Love, Simon is going to win over audiences in theaters this weekend and those fans who go to see it might wonder if there’s something to watch after the credits.

There is no extra scene that plays after the credits, but we recommend sitting through the credits roll to see the cute animations and photos that pop up. Also, there’s a good chance that you’ll be an emotional wreck from the film and just not able to get out of your seat!

Here is the film’s synopsis: “Simon Spier (Nick Robinson) keeps a huge secret from his family, his friends, and all of his classmates: he’s gay. When that secret is threatened, Simon must face everyone and come to terms with his identity.”

Nick Robinson just revealed that the message behind his new movie Love, Simon hits pretty close to home.

The 22-year-old actor opened up about how his gay brother came out right before he started filming the movie during an appearance on The Ellen Show on Wednesday (March 14).

“He came out right around the same time we started filming. I think he had been dealing with this for a long time. The timing was sort of coincidental,” Nick explained.

He continued, “One of the best things that came out of this movie was just being able to talk to him and I think the strength of a film like this is it starts conversations. I hope it can do that for more people.”

Nick Robinson and Katherine Langord hit the red carpet at the premiere of their new movie Love, Simon on Tuesday (March 13) at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles.

The actors were joined at the event by co-stars Josh Duhamel, Alexandra Shipp, Logan Miller, Keiynan Lonsdale, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Talitha Bateman, Tony Hale, Natasha Rothwell, Miles Heizer, Joey Pollari, and Clark Moore.

Love, Simon, which is getting rave reviews and currently has an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, hits theaters this weekend.

Nick Robinson looked sharp at a special screening of his new movie Love, Simon last night!

The 22-year-old Everything, Everything actor suited up for the event – hosted by 20th Century Fox and Wingman – at The Landmark at 57 West on Thursday (March 8) in New York City.

He was joined by his co-stars Alexandra Shipp and Katherine Langford, as well as director Greg Berlanti and soundtrack executive producer Jack Antonoff.

Also in attendance were Molly Ringwald, Dear Evan Hansen‘s Ben Platt, Dallas‘ Josh Henderson, Gotham‘s Erin Richards and Cory Michael Smith, All the Money in the World‘s Charlie Plummer, Riverdale‘s Haley Law, fashion designer Rachel Roy, and model Alex Lundqvist.

Love, Simon follows a 17-year old high schooler who has yet to tell his family or friends he’s gay while he attempts to discover the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying and life-changing.

The three Love, Simon stars joined director Greg Berlanti to chat about the upcoming movie.

During their visit, Greg spoke about his formula of casting the movie with “the best” of young Hollywood.

“My dream was to put together a ‘best of the class’,” he says. “Each one of them, knowing they’re not going to just have a moment to shine in the film, but also in their careers and of themselves.”

He added, “They could all be leads in the center of their own movies, and to have them all together makes it more of an event.”

Nick is also pictured on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday night (March 7).

Nick Robinson and Alexandra Shipp are celebrating Love, Simon with a little help from Waffle House!

The co-stars stepped out at a special screening and Q&A session on Tuesday (March 6) at the Waffle House Food Truck at Regal Atlantic Station in Atlanda, GA.

Nick and Alexandra got to meet tons of fans and test out some Waffle House treats in a nod to an important scene in the film.

Alexandra even took her turn behind the window of the food truck!
