If you were watching the beginning of Rent Live, you may have noticed the broadcast said “previously recorded” before the show kicked off.

Many fans were confused, but it looks like Brennin Hunt‘s sudden injury during the dress rehearsal on Saturday (January 26) caused a major change of plans.

Brennin, who plays Roger, broke his foot, and the cast addressed that the show would no longer be live after the prerecorded number “Light My Candle” between Brennin and Tinashe. Instead, they’ll be showing footage from Saturday’s dress rehearsal before Brennin‘s injury.

“Last night during our performance in front of a live audience, one of our cast members sustained an injury,” Vanessa Hudgens, who plays Maureen, said during the clip. “A visit to the hospital confirmed that Brennin Hunt, our Roger, broke his foot and will be unable to perform tonight.”

“But Rent has always been about community, resiliency and bouncing back, so the show much go on,” Valentina, who plays Angel, added.

Jordan Fisher, who plays Mark, added, “Most of what you’ll see tonight comes will from last night’s performance, but we have all rallied together to rework the final act so all of us can perform it for you live.”

The cast did add that they will come together at the end of the show for a live number and Brennin will be included, despite his injury.

UPDATE: It looks like the channel is currently up and running!

If you’re on the East Coast and were expecting to watch Rent Live, it’s currently not working!

That’s because Fox’s feed is totally frozen for many viewers on the East Coast of the United States.

Tweets began pouring in moments before the show was supposed to start live at 8pm ET.

Some celebs have even been tweeting that they can’t watch, including Rosie O’Donnell who wrote, “NYC NO SIGNAL ON FOX TV FOR RENT.”

If you don’t know, the cast of Rent Live actually announced why the show is no longer live.

Vanessa Hudgens will be playing the role of Maureen in Fox’s production of Rent Live, but did you know that she has appeared in the musical before?!

The 30-year-old actress previously played the role of Mimi while appearing in the Hollywood Bowl production of the musical back in 2010.

Vanessa says she hasn’t listened to or watched Idina Menzel‘s performance as Maureen in the Broadway or film versions.

“Jonathan Larson’s whole thing was about finding his true, authentic voice as an artist, and that inspires me so much, so I’ve been trying to take the same approach in finding who Maureen is to me and making sure that is true,” she told Playbill.

She added, “[Maureen] is a drama queen, loud and proud and loves being the center of attention. And she is outspoken and unapologetic for it. I grew up doing musical theatre and part of the reason I loved it was, of course, the shows and the music, but it was really about being on the stage and being the center of attention. We fit hand-in-hand nicely.”

Mario is playing Benny in the musical Rent Live and he’s been linked to his co-star Tinashe, who is playing Mimi.

The 32-year-old singer was spotted out for dinner at the popular Los Angeles restaurant Craig’s recently with Tinashe.

But, he says it was purely a friendly dinner and they weren’t even alone.

“She is a beautiful girl and we do have a vibe. But I [had] never been to Craig’s, and she asked me if I wanted to go to dinner with her and her manager,” Mario told Page Six.

Mario isn’t against dating girls that slide into his DMs, but he has a rule when it comes to that.

“I’ve dated girls that dropped in my DMs . . . absolutely; it’s 2019,” he said. “But if we don’t get out of the DMs within the first week, we’ll keep it at ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye,’ just a friendship. I’ll probably just fade away because I’ve had many of those.”

We are hours away from curtain time for Rent: Live, the latest live production of a Broadway musical on television!

Fox assembled a star-studded cast of actors and singer to bring the beloved Jonathan Larson musical to a new generation of fans.

The one-night-only special will be airing live from the Fox Studios lot in Los Angeles and a studio audience will get to experience the event live in person.

Alex Rudzinski is directing the special after working on many other live musicals, including Grease Live, Hairspray Live, and Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

Rent Live kicks off at 8pm EST/PST on Fox, so make sure to tune in for the event!

Tinashe is adding to her acting resume with her role as Mimi Marquez in Fox’s Rent Live.

The 25-year-old entertainer, who once had a recurring guest spot on Two & a Half Men, is best known for her music career and for competing on Dancing With the Stars.

Tinashe opened up about playing a risque character in the musical.

“I’m very pleased with how risqué they’ve allowed us to be. It still has a lot of the topics that are definitely not necessarily children topics, but I think it’s important because they’re very relevant and we deal with them in a beautiful, awesome, fun, exciting way,” Tinashe told Us Weekly. “I don’t think it’s bad or dark at all, even though it feels kind of dark!”

Tinashe also talked about the dark and emotional subject matter of the show.

“I still don’t think I’m as good at that as other, maybe more seasoned, actors in terms of getting to that emotional place every rehearsal because it is so heavy,” she said. “Sometimes it’s hard for me. If I get to that emotional place, it will ruin the day. The rest of the day I’ll be in my feels and some of our cast members are just really good at turning it on and turning it off. So, that’s just something that I’m working on — how to feel with these deep issues as a character and then still be able to go about my day.”

Brandon Victor Dixon is a Broadway veteran who will be featured as Tom Collins in Fox’s production of Rent Live.

The 37-year-old actor is also no stranger to performing in live musicals on television after his star-turn in Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, which earned him an Emmy nomination.

Brandon is opening up about his favorite Collins song in the musical.

“It’s probably the [I'll Cover You] reprise, but I have a great deal of fun with ‘Santa Fe’ as well. There are elements of each of them that I love,” Brandon told THR. “[The lyrics of] ‘Santa Fe’ … keep flipping from his idea of let’s open up a restaurant in Santa Fe to we’ll open up a restaurant in Santa Fe. … One of the things I love about our production is that we’re working very hard to make sure that people understand the urgency of the time and just the lack of anything to hold on to. You didn’t know what was going to happen the next day to you or anybody around you.”
