Amazon is adapting the Stephen King book series The Dark Tower into a television series and the two leads have been cast!

Sam Strike, best known for his work on Nightflyers, has landed the role of the Gunslinger, Roland Deschain. The series will take place many years before the events in the recent film adaptation, in which Idris Elba played the Gunslinger.

The series will follow “Roland Deschain’s origin story – how he first became a gunslinger and got his guns, his first conflict with the man in black, his first love and his first mission as a gunslinger,” according to Deadline.

Jasper, who was recently seen in the film BlacKkKlansman, is believed to play Marten, the target of Roland.

The Dark Tower, starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, hit theaters in August and though it was highly anticipated, it was not well received with the critics.

In addition, the film only made $50,372,805 domestically to date and had a reported budget of $60 million.

The book’s author, Stephen King, spoke about why he believes the film didn’t work well.

“The major challenge was to do a film based on a series of books that’s really long, about 3,000 pages. The other part of it was the decision to do a PG-13 feature adaptation of books that are extremely violent and deal with violent behavior in a fairly graphic way,” Stephen told Vulture. “That was something that had to be overcome, although I’ve gotta say, I thought [screenwriter] Akiva Goldsman did a terrific job in taking a central part of the book and turning it into what I thought was a pretty good movie. The TV series they’re developing now … we’ll see what happens with that. It would be like a complete reboot, so we’ll just have to see.

Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey‘s The Dark Tower has come in first at the weekend box office!

The film brought in $19.5 million it its opening weekend at the box office, which proved to start off a bit slow.

Dunkirk gave The Dark Tower a run for it’s money, but ended up in second place with $17.6 million.

Animated film The Emoji Movie came in third place with $12.3 million earned. Rounding out the top five were Girls Trip and Halle Berry‘s Kidnap, which brought in $11.4 million and $10.2 million, respectively.

Kathryn Bigelow‘s new film Detriot had a disappointing opening at the box office, and only brought in $7.3 million.

Here’s a synopsis of the movie: There are other worlds than these. Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

The film will hit theaters on August 4.

Matthew McConaughey leaves the gym after a two-hour workout session on Sunday (July 17) in Los Angeles.

The 46-year-old actor is staying in shape for filming of his upcoming movie The Dark Tower.

In the film, Matthew plays the Man in Black, an evil sorcerer set on destroying the Dark Tower.

Matthew told Entertainment Weekly, “You know, he’s not literally the Devil, but I sure as hell think about him like the Devil. Follow me now / And you will not regret / Leaving the life you led / Before we met,” he went on to quote Black Sabbath.

The Dark Tower will hit theaters on February 17, 2017.

Idris Elba faces off with Jackie Earle Haley while filming an intense action scene on the set of their upcoming movie The Dark Tower on Sunday (July 10) in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn, N.Y.

The 43-year-old actor was seen pointing a gun at Jackie, 54, who ripped a door off of a car at one point in the scene.

It looks like Jackie will have some sort of CGI put on his face as he was spotted with dots all over.

Earlier in the weekend, Idris was spotted with his shirt unbuttoned while filming another fight scene, this time on a rooftop with different actors.
