Sofia Boutella is opening about playing the title role in her anticipated film, The Mummy!

“Why aren’t monsters being played by women? If you piss off a woman she’s far more brutal than a man. How come they didn’t think about that before?,” the 35-year-old actress recently expressed (via LA Times).

“Ahmanet is the ultimate feminist, I think,” Sofia added. “What happened to her is something that’s always existed and, weirdly, still does, being prevented from ever becoming pharaoh because her father has a child and the child is a boy. She’s not OK with that. She doesn’t victimize herself. And the movie also does not victimize her. I feel lucky to be part of this film.”

The actors were joined by their co-stars Jake Johnson and Courtney B. Vance, as well as director Alex Kurtzman.

The film, a reboot of the classic monster movie franchise, hits theaters on Friday and it will serve as the first film in Universal Pictures’ new monster universe.

The Mummy‘s leading ladies Sofia Boutella and Annabelle Wallis have nothing but nice things to say about their co-stars Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe!

“It was a lot of fun, these guys know what they’re doing and they love their jobs so much,” Sofia, 35, recently expressed.

“Russell has such a voice, such a mesmerising voice, and Tom… I spent so much time with him and his enthusiasm is wonderful I loved working with him,” Sofia added. “He is so funny and he loves making films, he communicates his passion so well, he was always present.”

“[It was a] dream come true,” Annabelle, 32, concluded. “They like to give it but I like to give it right back.”

Tom Cruise is starring in the reboot of The Mummy franchise and 34 stills from the upcoming movie, in theaters June 9, have been released.

The 54-year-old actor headlines a cast featuring Russell Crowe, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Sofia Boutella as The Mummy.

Sofia Boutella, Tom Cruise, and Annabelle Wallis walk the red carpet together at the latest premiere of their movie The Mummy on Tuesday (May 30) at Le Grand Rex in Paris, France.

The cast has been traveling all around the world promoting the upcoming film alongside director Alex Kurtzman. They were all in Madrid on Monday and in Taiwan last week. The stop in London last canceled though due to the Manchester attack.

The Mummy hits theaters on June 9!

Tom Cruise is sandwiched in between his leading ladies Sofia Boutella and Annabelle Wallis at the premiere of their movie The Mummy on Monday (May 29) at Callao Cinema in Madrid, Spain.

The trio of stars was joined at the event by the movie’s director Alex Kurtzman.

The cast of The Mummy won’t be heading to London as previously planned following the terrorist attack in Manchester, England. When a fan asked the film’s star Russell Crowe if he’ll be in London, he tweeted, “Out of respect for Manchester victims, London premiere was cancelled by the studio.”

Tom Cruise is joined by his leading ladies at the premiere of their movie The Mummy on Thursday (May 25) in Taipei, Taiwan.

The 54-year-old actor was seen posing for photos with Annabelle Wallis and Sofia Boutella, as well as director Alex Kurtzman.

The crew also stepped out for a photo call earlier in the day!
