Angels Pitcher Tyler Skaggs Cause of Death Revealed

The cause of Tyler Skaggs‘ death has been revealed.

The Angels pitcher died from a mixture of ethanol, fentanyl and oxycodone in his system, along with “terminal aspiration of gastric contents,” The Tarrant County Medical Examiner confirmed on Friday (August 30).

“We are heartbroken to learn that the passing of our beloved Tyler was the result of a combination of dangerous drugs and alcohol. That is completely out of character for someone who worked so hard to become a Major League baseball player and had a very promising future in the game he loved so much. We are grateful for the work of the detectives in the Southlake Police Department and their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Tyler’s death. We were shocked to learn that it may involve an employee of the Los Angeles Angels. We will not rest until we learn the truth about how Tyler came into possession of these narcotics, including who supplied them. To that end, we have hired Texas attorney Rusty Hardin to assist us,” the family told The Blast in a statement.

As originally reported, Tyler sadly died at the age of 27 in Texas back in July after being found unresponsive in his hotel room. He was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police. No foul play was suspected in the case.

Tyler Skaggs Was Found Unresponsive in Hotel Room, No Foul Play Suspected

New details are emerging in the tragic death of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs.

The 27-year-old baseball player died on Monday (July 1) while in Texas for his team’s game against the Texas Rangers. The game has since been postponed by the MLB.

The Southlake Police Department told The Blast that Tyler was found unresponsive in his hotel room at 2:18pm. There is no foul play suspected in the death and an investigation is underway.

“Officers arrived and found the male unresponsive and he was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said. A spokesperson for the police department says suicide is not suspected.

The emergency dispatch audio deemed the call to be a “medical emergency,” but a second call changed the situation to a “possible death investigation.”

Tyler Skaggs, a pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, has tragically died at the age of 27.
