Demi Lovato Opens Up About Her Meltdown on 'Ellen'

Demi Lovato gets serious with Ellen DeGeneres while making an appearance on her talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing Tuesday (September 20).

The 19-year-old singer spoke with Ellen about her time in a treatment facility – and what would have happened if she hadn’t checked herself into the program.

“I went from being at the highlight of my career. Having a movie about to come out or just come out and being on this tour. Having so much success. So many things were going great in my life and then all of the sudden my personal life just went down at crazy speeds,” Demi said to Ellen.

“I had a negative break down and it changed my life forever but I’m glad that it did because if I had never gone into the treatment. I don’t know if one, I’d even be sitting here today. Two, if I’d be alive today,” Demi revealed.

@nvgdc: Well, my heart bleeds. There are worse things in the world. You want to talk about going through a lot? Perhaps you should rent the film Turtles Can Fly. Now those are teenagers/kids with problems. Clearly this bint is bleeding this story dry.

i think she is strong. yes, she may not went through some really heavy stuff, like children who lose their parents, like children who have no place to leave or nothing to eat.
BUT she is a teenager, and she had a lot of pressure. she had a lot to take.
so i think good for her she got treatment, and right now is a happy person.

Great for Demi. I hope she can stay on the right path. As for those with nasty comments, JJ is such a positive blog, Why are you even here? Stick to the snarky bloggers. I’m sure they’re more up your alley.

Demi is NOT fat people, just because you see flesh doesn’t make you fat. The reason she is talking about it is because people ask her about it, she is trying to send a message to teens that you shouldn’t feel pressured to look like what the media’s interprets as perfection. So yeah, she has talked about her journey a lot and if you have a problem just don’t listen cause it’s not for you, its for the teenage girls who develop eating disorders and cut themselves because of fat comments such as the ones seen here. you all really need to grow up and get over it cause truth is, she will most likely never see your comments or care about them, she is doing what shes doing for herself and for her fans and unless you’re unable to for some reason, you can always change the channel, radio station, or jj page so you don’t have to look at it but, your insults do absolutely nothing to her. Also, I would take a good look in the mirror before I went and called someone fat cause chances are YOU aren’t the size zero you try to portray yourself as online! Stay strong Demi! ;)

    Jessie Says:

I’m sorry, maybe because it’s been a while since I’ve been a teenager but what did she go through that was so horrible and dramatic? I know teenage life sucks because everything is dramatized and to the 100th degree but she’s only, what – 18? 19? When you look at people like Amy Winehouse, who are adults and have gone through terrible drug abuse, toxic relationships, being an adult, etc., that’s when have a glimpse of understanding of why life is hard. Or that homeless man Ted Williams, who went through drug and alcohol abuse, was (to put it nicely) a “on and off again” father trying to raise kids without money, homeless, etc… that’s when I’ll give my hats off to them. I’m not doubting Demi’s personal struggles, but it seems to be way too “dramatic”… Teenagers go through her issues everyday – alcohol, drug abuse, parent’s relationship and their negative effects, family abuse, boyfriend abuse, self esteem issues, career/academic issues, etc… she’s just a kid, but maybe kids go through so much more these days back when I was a teenager. Anyhoo, ending on a positive note – she seems to do be doing well and I’m happy for her. She also seems to be loving the new-found attention and is rehab’s new spokesperson. Let’s not forget all the teenagers around the world who have overcome THEIR issues – I applaud you too

    delicate Says:

I am happy she’s good now and it’s terrible that she had to deal with such terrible issues, but it starts to irritate me, the way she uses her meltdown to promote herself and new CD. It was nice at the beginning, to hear ‘Skyscraper’ and see her bikini photo on twitter, but HELLO, it’s time to start something new, show yourself as happy person who left all these bad memories behind.

  18. 18
    Jessie Says:

@Tamara: Really? haha so she went into rehab for becoming and alcoholic and a ****? Wow. People in their 20′s go through this everyday! (Not that I applaud it) but you don’t see them going into rehab and getting so much “praise” and going on talk shows proclaiming how “life has changed” like Demi has lol

    Paul Says:

I feel really bad for all she has gone through, I really do. However quite a few people have been bullied by her in her younger years.

  20. 20
    Greta Duff-Weingartner Says:

No offence but isn’t it a tad melodramatic to say that if she hadn’t been to rehab she might not be alive. Like gees, she went to rehab because she punched a girl out of anger, she didn’t end up with a terminal illness. My heart bleeds indeed.

    maggie Says:

Don’t mean to be a hater but how many times is she gonna ‘open up’ about her drama ??? she’s talked about it so many times people get it she had a ‘tough’ time but it’s been almost a year now i think it’s time for her to stop selling her issues !

    Shawna Says:

She has bipolar disorder you idiots and you have NO idea how it feels to suffer from that every single day. You are all seriously pathetic.

  24. 24
    commonsense Says:

Please, things didn’t just happen. She started to do drugs. I don’t believe for one second believe she’s bipolar. I believe that her people (manager, PR team) figured we (the public) would be more accepting of her bad behaviour if we thought she had a mental disorder.

  25. 25
    Katie Says:

@commonsense: I agree. “Bipolar” is a good scapegoat for a rebellious teen turning into a “who” to the “re” and alcoholic. Catherine Zeta Jones had bi-polar but you don’t see her going on all these talk shows talking about her and her husband’s struggles.
