Andrew Garfield: Martin Scorsese's 'Silence' Star!

Andrew Garfield films scenes for his upcoming flick The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with his co-star Dane DeHaan on Monday (May 6) in Brooklyn, New York.

The 29-year-old actor was just announced as the star for famed director Martin Scorsese‘s upcoming movie Silence, according to Variety.

Andrew will play the leading role of Father Rodrigues in the adaptation of Japanese novelist Shusaku Endo‘s book, which is set to begin production next June.

The movie is about a 17th-century Portuguese Jesuit (Garfield) who travels to Japan with a fellow priest amid rumors that Rodrigues’ mentor has abandoned the Church.

Also pictured inside: Dane attending the 2013 Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (May 6) in New York City.

FYI: Andrew is wearing Levi’s jeans.

So happy for Andrew!!! I’m glad he is doing other movies. He was robbed of the oscar nomination in social network. Also such a moving performance in Never Let Me Go. Martin Scorsese is a legend. I bet the haters on this site are gonna freak out over this.

Just saw Dane Dehaan in Place Beyond the Pines with Ryan Gosling. He honestly gave the best performance more than Gosling and Bradley Cooper. I loved chronicle too. Good job andrew. scorcese is a huge deal and hopefully people who think he’s just another prettyboy like rob pattinson could shut up.

Andrew was so great with Heath Ledger in Dr.Parnassus especially this scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qs_IxzyXymU

If scorsese picked him as the lead then he is a great actor. Cant wait Andrew could be a possible Oscar nominee. Agree he was completely robbed for a nomination for social network.

Oh man andrew/emma are doing grear careerwise. I hope Andrew does another play and wins the tony award after death of a salesman. I was worried he was just going to do spidey but this is great news. also emma with woody allen/cameron crowe movie/del toro movie is looking great too. If they find time to get engaged/married/make cute babies i’d be so happy.

Good to hear he is finally dong another movie and a Scorsese movie no less. I was worried his career had stalled and he’d be stuck in Spider-Man movies. Anyone who has seen him in Red Riding Hood, Boy A know he is too talented for that.

It’s weird but he’s suddenly started showing his age over the last 6 months. He looked young for his age up until recently but it’s like he just suddenly hit a wall and you can tell he’s nearly 30.
