Shakira Gives Us a Peek at Her Rockin' Abs for Women's Health's April 2014

Shakira displays her amazing body on the cover of Women’s Health magazine’s April 2014 issue.

Here’s what the 37-year-old entertainer had to share with the mag:

On keeping the spark in her relationship with Gerard Pique: “I think it takes—to keep it passionate in relationships—a lot of laughter and a lot of fun moments together. I think you have to have fun together, that’s essential. But also affinity, you know. You have to be compatible. You have to—both of you—have to want it, have to really want the relationship to survive and to make it. I’m really happy where I am right now, with the person that I’m with right now. He seems to want the same things I want, and that’s very important.”

On getting in shape after her pregnancy: “I try to eat healthy and I try to exercise. Not only going to the gym, because sometimes I do get tired of working out, the gym, the treadmill, the stuff that all women dread. So I recently decided to just do sports, because they’re so much fun and they accomplish the same purpose, which is ultimately to keep you fit. So I planned a whole daily routine of roller skating, playing basketball, and playing tennis, and swimming. So every day I would do something different and that seemed to put me back in shape. Because I didn’t have a maternity leave. After I delivered my baby, I had to come to Los Angeles to do The Voice. I only had two months with my baby, he was only two months old and he was already flying more than a pilot – so many miles. So I didn’t really have time to get back to my old self and train properly. But now, after season 4, I ran home and started doing more sports and tried to get myself back in shape. Variety is so important. Keep it new, keep it fresh.”

On why she called her song “Hips Don’t Lie”: “The reason why I named that song [Hips Don’t Lie] like that is because, when I’m in the studio, I know when a song is ready and it can be taken out of the oven, and it’s exactly when my hips start moving – when my body reacts physically to a song, I know—if it’s a dance song—that song is done. So I used to say to my musicians, “my hips don’t lie! Are they moving? They’re not moving! So this is not ready.” And that’s how I came up with it, the idea of the song.”

I wonder what the average maternity leave is for her country because 2 months sounds about right for America. Well I think it’s about 3 months but it’s kind of funny she said she didn’t have any maternity leave but she sort of did. I will say that only 2-3 months for maternity leave is insane and absurd, it should be longer.

Seriously? That doesn’t sound right. Where I live you can go back to work after 2 months, but you can also choose to stay home for up to a year, more if you need. Full pay too
