Angelina Jolie Puts Spotlight on Syrian Refugees in CNN Report

Angelina Jolie is putting her name to good use once again to put the spotlight on Syrian Refugees in this new report that CNN aired on Thursday (March 27).

The 38-year-old actress, who is currently in Sarajevo visiting with victims of the Bosnian War, paid a visit to a Lebanese refugee camp to speak with a young girl named Hala and her five siblings.

“When I met Hala, and her brothers and sisters, they had been living in this camp for almost a year,” Angelina said in the video about the children, who watched their mother die under their collapsed home and don’t know where their father is.

Would you have preferred that Angelina talk about oats and stuff? Her diet, her hair, her exercise program, her skin care? Is that the type of envoy you prefer? Better go and buy Aveeno, Ticky will tell you all about all of the stuff. She won’t do it well. You’ll have to get through the ummm’s, ah’s, ummm.

She’s more your speed and I.Q. level.

Angelina’s way out of your league.

CinemaCon: Sony Screens 30 Minutes of ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ Plus New ‘Fury’ Footage

The first footage from Fury, David Ayers’ WWII tank drama, was screened. It centers on Brad Pitt as the leader of a closely knit tank crew that adds a new member to its ranks.

The footage showed explosive battle scenes and tense moments between the members of the crew and some of the civilians they interacted with during the war.

Shia LaBeouf, who stars as one of the crew members, has several emotional moments in the trailer, reciting Bible verses and, at one point, screaming at Pitt’s character who has decided to stay and fight a massive, fast-approaching army of German soldiers.

“Ideals are peaceful,” said Pitt’s character. “History is violent.

The other picture that made waves was “Fury.” An original story by Ayers set during the last days of World War II, the movie finds Brad Pitt playing Wardaddy, the commander of a five-man tank crew who have already been to hell and back again. Make no mistake, Pitt is not playing another version of Lt. Aldo Raine from “Inglorious Basterds.” The scenes shown depict Wardaddy as a feared, but loved commander whose entire life is in his tank. Logan Lerman plays Norman, a newbie to the Army who is immediately out of place among a group of veterans portrayed by Pitt, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal and, yes, Shia Labeouf. In fact, all the actors look at peak form (even Labeouf), but Pitt? From what was shown, this looks very, very special. Ayers has also crafted a grittier and more realistic European Theater than depicted in “Saving Private Ryan” or HBO’s “Band of Brothers.” Up and coming cinematographer Roman Vasyanov has been impressive previously collaborating with Ayers on “End of Watch” and his look was the best part of “The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman,” but “Fury” is going to become into his calling card. It’s simply gorgeous work. The trailer should hit theaters sometime this summer and expect “Fury” to quickly land on any many awards season contender lists.

David Ayer’s based-on-a-true-story, WWII tank action epic sells itself on the cast alone. With a line-up that includes Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, and Jon Bernthal, you almost don’t need to show much of the film. However, Sony hit several general audience sweet spots in showcasing key moments from the movie. The action is real and raw with an end-of-the-world feel, which is to be expected from director Ayer (“End of Watch,” “Sabotage”), who has proven his ability to bring audiences into the story in such a way. When we meet the team of weary, muddy, hardened soldiers (led by Pitt’s character) toward the end of the war, we feel an almost instant connection to and interest in their plight, even if we don’t know why just yet. Lastly, the footage showed that there is love in war, as evidenced by a quietly moving scene away from the battlefield involving Pitt’s character, toned and tan and shirtless, and Lerman’s character visiting two women and talking about life and love.

Damn. Five min sizzle reel for @DavidAyerMovies’ Fury was outstanding. Gave me chills, WW2 tank movie with heart and energy. Wow. #cinemacon

Sony showed footage from #Fury. Lots of Brad Pitt and some emotional scenes from Shia. #CinemaCon

Footage from David Ayer’s FURY was absolutely jaw-dropping. Looks like @SonyPictures is gunning for Oscars #cinemacon

So, Angelina’s Unbroken kills at Cinemacon, so does Brad’s, Fury. Angelina is walking the walk and Brad’s executive produced what appears to be a very good documentary with Big Men. Also, Plan B has produced Resurrection, new hit on TV and they have The Normal Heart coming out on HBO. Emmy nods may be in Plan B’s future to go a long with their Academy Award. Brad and Angelina may be in the game for next awards season. I say may, we won’t know, until we know. Until the movies are released and so on.

    Hi paypal. ROTFLMAO!

No wonder the trolls lost their collective heads last night. All 7 of them from Fat Fvcks R Us.

And all the trolls have is Ticky giving interviews for no reason, continuing to prove she’s as deep as a thimble. And she is what Tate Donavan called her. A shallow b!tch. What Brad called her, a dead end bore and what Mayer called her, old and boring.

  • Angie and Brad beautiful love

fvck, this was really hard to watch !!!!!!!!!!

Seeing Angie with that poor family of children without parents and living in a refuge camp make me think in all the hard things Angie have saw in all this 12 years working in UN for refuges.

Angie must be affected by all this images, she must fell the sadness and the impotence, she must be traumatized too by all this disgrace and inhumanity she sees every time she goes in a UN mission.

I don´t know what is need to survived a war situation but Angie must be really a strong and courageous woman, i don´t know what is need to lived with all this images and all this emotions and this experiences when she return to her home.

Like i said, Angie is the most beautiful woman in the world, a great and glamorous actress, a very rich and successful person and a happy mother and wife with a happy family, living in a amazing home in a peaceful place and besides all that she is in that refuge camp, talking with that kids, looking to their faces and eyes and felling all the drama and tragedy of this family.

Angie must be mental prepared to face this situations. It must be very difficult to return and not think about this drama again.

Well, hope Angie family can give all the love and support she deserve. It´s not easy to do what she does. Angie deserve everything in this life. She already is doing too much. She is a force of nature but this images are to harder to forget.

I know Brad and her six happy kids will compensate Angie after this kind of trips. She is a Queen but an Angel too….kiss

  • yloveblue

    Jared,
Thank you so much for posting this. The war of adult kill kid’’s happiness.Goopy’s kids are the all same syrian kids.

  • Angie and Brad beautiful love

I believed Angie is helping personally this children and this family.

Even if we don´t know, even if it´s not a public help and is not reported i really believed Angie is doing something for this kids.

This family was chosen to make the report for UNHCR video, they are the best example of what this war can do for a family with children so young and the trauma this situation can generated in a person.

Knowing Angie i believed she will not be in peace if she do not find a way to give some help to this amazing family.

The public don´t know and Angie is not a person to need any publicity about this kind of dramatic situations, but if she and the UN select this family, Angie for sure is helping and supporting this kids, like she probably does with many others without nobody knowing.

Angie is too good and she cares too much to not done nothing. One time she talked with a old couple in Serbia, the house was destroyed (something like that), Angie was crying and she promises help. After many months, someone from a TV found the couple and they are living in a new home that was donated by Angie.

Angie have helped many people without public report and i´m sure Angie is helping this kids. I will sleep a little bit better because i know Angie.

She is a beautiful Queen but she is a Angel first

  • ndn

It was so sad watching the video….The situation is getting worse…I’m glad that Angie is bringing awareness to the plight of these refugees…

    @Angie and Brad beautiful love:
    .
That is my gut feeling as well. Angelina is doing a lot more than just interviewing these children. Her heart would not allow her not to help and when Brad sees the video I know he would want their family to help in every way they can. They cannot see hurting….especially children….and not reach out their hands to help them.
    .
God bless our beautiful JoliePItts. They have hearts of gold filled with love.

    @Observer2:

You gotta wonder if Aniston knew about CNN’s report on the refugees and Angelina’s interview of the refugee family. You know those sneaky PR hacks that some stars have to employ for years. Huvaning and hacking all over the place—no wonder Jennay is doing a promotional press junket on her narrating an Aveeno lotion ad about combining oats. What did Jen say she was again? An ambassador for Aveeno on a global scale? bwhahaha

I don’t know which one who should be more embarrassed…Aveeno or Aniston.

Aveeno needs to donate some oats to starving people and animals. Aniston needs to quit with her lying azz.

Angelina Jolie puts spotlight on Syrian refugees as U.N. Refugees chief warns Lebanon could collapse under burden
    =========================================================================================

    .
    March 27th, 2014
    .
Lebanon could collapse under the weight of the massive influx of Syrian refugees, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres warned in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour that aired Thursday. Without economic and financial support, and an increased effort to share the burden of Syrian refugees, “Lebanon [does] not [have] the possibility to go on with the present situation,” Guterres said.
    .
Angelina Jolie, a Special Envoy for the UNHCR, is highlighting the plight of Syrian refugees. She recently visited with a family living in a Lebanese refugee camp, speaking with a young child, Hala, and her five siblings. Hala saw her mother killed under their collapsed home, and their father is missing and presumed dead.
    .
“Twenty-five percent of the Lebanese population today is Syrian,” Guterres said. “We have more Syrian students in Lebanese public schools than Lebanese students.” “Lebanon has serious problems with electricity and water, and largely because of this huge increase in population; the health system is totally overburdened, and the security implications of the Syrian crisis to Lebanon are absolutely dramatic.” “Nobody can afford the collapse of Lebanon in the present moment.”
    .
Lebanon has felt the brunt of the Syrian conflict, with just under a million refugees, according to the U.N. Turkey and Jordan are both caring for about half a million refugees each; Iraq and Egypt are also carrying a significant burden. “I remember in Jordan another child, a 4-year-old child, a boy,” Guterres recalled. “We were there for 20 minutes in his family’s tent. And he was constantly shooting with a toy gun.”
    .
“Nobody managed to calm him down because violence is so deeply now in his way of life.” The UNHCR is trying to help those children with “psychosocial support” but that is often ineffective given the extent of some of the trauma, Guterres admitted. “When we see this tragedy, when we see this generation, it really breaks our hearts, because it’s not only these children; it’s the future of Syria that is being completely undermined.”
    .
Guterres’ mandate as U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees is humanitarian, but as a former Portuguese prime minister, he says the security implications of the conflict are hard to miss. “I’m sure now the biggest threat, not only to regional stability but to global peace and security that we have faced since many, many decades ago.”
    .
“Recently in a meeting with the minister of home affairs of Europe, their main concern was not the number of refugees coming into Europe; it was the number of European citizens going into Syria to fight in Syria now.” “And that one day will come – radicalized, hardened, and potentially a security threat for their own countries.”
    .
It is absolutely essential, Guterres said, that the international community overcome its divisions and work to end the conflict. “I have never seen any major crisis in the world being solved without a lot of discreet, behind-the-scenes diplomacy.”
“What is for me dramatic in Syria is that I don’t see that activity behind the scenes.”
    .
It is vital that all countries with a stake – whether politically or militarily or financially, and whether with the government or opposition – play a role. He cited the U.S., Russia, Iran, Saudia Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey to name just a few. “I believe it’s absolutely essential that these countries all understand that today this is a war nobody is winning,” he said. “It is clear that both the government and the opposition cannot survive without the support of the key stakeholders around the conflict.” “This is becoming a serious threat to everybody.”

Did Angelina Jolie and William Hague travel in a convoy through Croydon today? – VIDEO
    =====================================================================
    .
By Croydon Advertiser | Posted: March 27, 2014

    .
HOLLYWOOD megastar Angelina Jolie and Foreign Secretary William Hague are rumoured to have been the faces hidden inside a heavily guarded convoy which passed through Croydon this morning. Drivers and residents were stunned to see four police bikes and seven police cars processing through the area between 8.30am-9am.
    .
Ms Jolie, a Special E nvoy of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, met Mr Hague at his offices this morning before the pair flew out to Bosnia and Herzegovina on a humanitarian mission. They met to discuss tackling rape in war zones, but their journey was apparently arranged and executed amidst great secrecy, with all efforts made to keep the pair away from the public.
    .
Mystified drivers were left aghast at the sight of the convoy this morning, which headed from Dorking to Reigate and then north through Addington and Croydon. One driver managed to film the cavalcade of vehicles as they passed along the A2022 Kent Gate Way and rumours were swirling that the Queen or Prime Minister David Cameron could be on board.
    .
Mr Hague confirmed on Twitter earlier today that he was visiting Bosnia with Ms Jolie to meet survivors of sexual violence.

Angelina Jolie in Saravejo for a Mission
    ==================================
    .
By Athena Yenko | March 28, 2014 4:11 PM EST
    .
On Thursday, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie arrived in Saravejo with British Foreign Secretary William Hague to attend a conference on sexual violence in war on Friday.
    .
The conference was organised by Bosnia’s defence ministry. The conference was held in support of Ms Jolie and Mr Hague’s campaign to end rape as weapon of war. Ms Jolie and Mr Hague will be meeting rape survivors of the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia. The duo will also be speaking with the country’s judges, prosecutors and other key officials who are working on rape cases that accumulated through the years of wars.
    be of help in Bosnia.
    .
Speaking in a press conference, Ms Jolie said that their visit is particularly aimed to meet with victims in Bosnia. “We are here to meet victims of the war in Bosnia, female and male survivors of rape who carry a terrible burden. The use of rape as a weapon of war is one of the great injustices of our time. For too long the world has tolerated these crimes, and left survivors to struggle in the shadows. Our goal is to bring forward the voices of the survivors of these crimes and to ask the world to stand with them and against impunity.”
    .
“Tens of thousands of women, girls and men were raped during the war in Bosnia. We are visiting to draw the world’s attention to their search for justice, and to call for global action to end the use of rape as a weapon of war once and for all.
    .
In London in ten weeks’ time we will be asking nations around the world to make that decisive commitment, so that from Bosnia to the DRC survivors get the justice they need, and future mass rape can be prevented. We can and must change the entire global attitude to these crimes, and shatter the culture of impunity,” Mr Hague said.
    .
Ms Jolie was appointed as Special Envoy of UN High Commissioner for Refugees by António Guterres back in April of 2012. On June, Ms Jolie and Mr Hague will co-host the three-day Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict to be held in London.

Jolie visits Bosnia on mission against rape in war
    =========================================

    .
SARAJEVO: Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie arrived in Sarajevo with British Foreign Secretary William Hague to take part in a conference on sexual violence in war, to be held on Friday, organized by Bosnia’s defense ministry.
    .
Jolie and Hague are due to co-host a high-profile summit focused on ending rape as a weapon of war, scheduled for June in London and expected to be the largest ever gathering of its kind, according to the British foreign minister.
    .
Dressed in black, the US actress arrived at the Sarajevo airport in pouring rain and headed to a hotel situated in downtown on Thursday.
    .
Hague was also to meet members of Bosnia’s tripartite presidency and visit Srebrenica, where Serb forces massacred some 8,000 Muslim men and boys near the end of the country’s 1992-1995 war.
    .
Jolie’s 2011 directorial debut, “In the Land of Blood and Honey”, dealt with the issues of war crimes and violence against women during Bosnia’s war and included many actors from the former Yugoslavia.
    .
She was named an honorary citizen of Sarajevo in 2012.
    .
According to local organizations, around 20,000 women were raped during the war in Bosnia between Croats, Muslims and Serbs that claimed around 100,000 lives. (AFP)

‘Maleficent’ merchandise ranges from $16 lipstick to $20K jewellery
    ======================================================

    .
    March 27, 2014, 6:00 a.m.
    .
Disney’s “Maleficent” may not be hitting the multiplex until May, but details about some of the merchandise (think: fashionable goods for the bad girl) are starting to trickle out. Among the notable stylish “Maleficent” merchandise set to drop in advance of the film’s May 30 release: Stella McCartney kids’ clothes, Italian-made scarves and a jewellery collaboration with prices as high as her Winged Wickedness’ prosthetically enhanced cheekbones.
    .
    Crow’s Nest for “Maleficent”
    ——————————————–
Daniel Belevitch, creative director of U.K.-based Crow’s Nest, mined the movie’s dark motifs — think feathers, fire, thorns, horns and dragons — to create a high-end, seven-piece jewellery collection that includes a dangerous-looking cuff that evokes the shape of Maleficent’s horns rendered in black rhodium and set with a pear-shaped onyx ($5,720) and a breath-taking rose gold full-finger-length ring encrusted with sparks of yellow and red sapphires ($20,880). Available in early May.

    .

    Faliero Sarti
    ——————-
Luxury Italian scarf maker Faliero Sarti has created two modal and cashmere scarves in partnership with Disney Consumer Products. A blue one, edged in a thorn border design, depicts the dangerous damsel lurking in the foreground of a moonlit nightscape, a cottage (presumably Sleeping Beauty’s) visible in the background. A black one features an image of the sorceress in the center, framed by a border of stylized thorns, beaked skulls and black birds ($438 each, available in early May).
    .
    David Lerner
    ——————–
If Maleficent decided to stow the horns and dress down for a night on the town she might well choose to wear one of the pieces created in collaboration with the David Lerner label — either the black, thigh-length jersey dress with sheer shoulders ($275) or the black, form-fitting, side-zip leggings ($178). Available in early May.
    .
    Stella McCartney Kids
    ———————————-
McCartney, who has partnered on past Disney projects, has designed an eight-piece collection themed around the deadly damsel, the standouts of which include an Aurora dress with floral embroidery detail on the sleeves, neck and belt (for the good little girl, $145) and a dress for the mini-Maleficent in your brood, complete with an all over winged-witch foil print and fabric “wings” that attach at the wrists ($145, purple velvet horn headdress sold separately). The collection also includes a few pieces for the boys (let’s call them “male-ficents,” shall we?), including a cool pair of canvas kicks with an all over feather print and a pair of detachable wings ($200). Available through Stella McCartney and Disney stores as well as both brands’ e-commerce sites at the end of April.
    .
    MAC Cosmetics
    ————————-
As one might expect, the cosmetics offering pegged to the film is glamour meets Goth, and the 11-piece wing-silhouette-emblazoned MAC collection includes the obligatory standout blood-red shade of lipstick (“True Love’s Kiss,” $16.50) and a trio of nail lacquers with names like “Uninvited,” “Flaming Rose” and “Nocturnelle” (nude, red and black respectively, $17.50 each). Available May 15 through select MAC stores and Macy’s.
    .
    Naeem Khan
    ——————-
A women’s capsule collection tied to the film and designed by Naeem Khan is set to take wing exclusively at HSN on May 7 (with a live TV selling event scheduled for May 27-30). Divided between “wicked side” (heavy on the black with the through line of a gray, black and white feather print) and “good side” (white tone-on-tone feather embroidery), it includes trousers, tops, cropped jackets, dresses and an assortment of pleated pieces including skirts and A-line, thigh-length dresses, all of which will retail from $69.90 to $269.90.

In this way , they offer a global lighting Provence . Their white , a Côtes de Provence and Coteaux Varois , assemblies and rolle white grenache, are highly appreciated by sommeliers .
    .
    How have they chosen ?
They love our French wines and know Tablas Paso Robles , our California vineyards since the 1990s . Our family clan has appointed me to cornaquer the project, but all decisions are collective Miraval . For my part, I looked on the U.S. market for all of our sales of the Rhone Valley . When the couple contacted me , it seemed logical that I remain their preferred partner . Hollywood stars or not , the issue is not there . It is a challenge winemaker , so I am comfortable …
    .
Since Perrin are associated with 50% of the Pitt- Jolie, what wines you co-sign to Miraval ?
For five generations , our job is to take control of properties to reveal its potential. Here is the meeting of two families in the service of a domain exception. Miraval is a force of nature. France has a unique position and potential global reach , it also must demonstrate that Miraval since the spotlight is on us. We will release the first vintage 2013 red syrah dominant at the end of 2014. In five years, we will come out another red, Super Provence, in the spirit of Super Tuscans , with Pinot Noir as well , which will make iconoclastic in Provence. Red Miraval follow, in part, the same way that our wine marketing Tribute to Jacques Perrin Castle Beaucastel , not only French Bordeaux wine to be distributed on the Bordeaux first growths alongside classified .
    .
The Perrin family has been elected Personality of the Year 2014 Decanter . How do you feel ?
Before us, others have received this honor. I think especially of Aubert de Villaine , de la Romanée -Conti , whom I greatly admire . This award not only welcomes the wines, but the influence of the character of the wine world . Our family has relied on the evolution of the wines in the Rhone valley . I think my grandfather Jacques Perrin , who signed the renewal of Châteauneuf -du -Pape . I also think the conversion of vineyards to organic farming in 1953 . I still think of my father and my uncle , Jean -Pierre and François , who implanted Rhone varietals , Syrah, Grenache , Mourvedre , Cinsault , California to Paso Robles, or who have worked for the return of the assembly thirteen varietals in Châteauneuf -du -Pape , when other growers plébiscitaient “all – grenache .” This appointment is a great pride for the family.

NJ master craftsman hews to tradition of carving custom furniture by hand
    ===============================================================

    .
Accompanying his father to Newark demolition sites filled a young Frank Pollaro with mixed emotions. On one hand, what little boy wouldn’t want to tag along with a dad who works with wrecking balls? On the other, however, Pollaro was awestruck by the fading grandeur of each abandoned building and remembers mourning its fate. “As a 5-year-old, I did not understand why the building was being wrecked. I was saying, ‘Yeah, but the building is beautiful on the inside,’ ” the Bloomfield native says, describing the final walkthroughs he took with his dad. “I left these buildings disturbed that they were coming down. It was the creation in my mind of wanting to build something, instead of demolish it.”
    .
He started small, as a 12-year-old crafting salad bowls from spare pallet wood in his parents’ garage and giving them as gifts to his mother and his aunts. “In fact, my mom still has one. She’s 81 now,” he says. After high school, Pollaro studied for a year at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. By 21, he founded Pollaro Custom Furniture in a 300-square-foot Bloomfield shop and hired his childhood friend Jerry Marano as his first employee.
    .
During the first few years, business was slow. Pollaro experimented with replicating a few 1920s-era pieces by master furniture designer Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, including the Ruhlmann Chiffonier — with its impossibly thin white, ivory inlays
set against ebony mahogany. “He was the high priest of Art Deco work. He defined the movement,” Pollaro says of Ruhlmann. Confident in the quality of his reproductions, Pollaro sought a stage for them. He regularly contacted Architectural Digest in an attempt to get a picture of one of his products published in “AD At Large,” a section of the magazine that showcases up-and-coming furniture makers. His persistence paid off.
    .
“Architectural Digest published one of my pieces in a tiny photo on the last page of the magazine — in the crease of the magazine,” he says. However poorly placed, the image featuring Pollaro’s take on the Ruhlmann Chiffonier caught the eye of an Australian developer and hotel owner. It was 1995 and the developer ordered $600,000 worth of those specific pieces at a time when Pollaro’s annual volume was about $100,000.
    .
Now, at age 47, the master craftsman is known worldwide for his complex veneer and inlay reproductions, as well as his original work, which marries French Art Deco reproduction and modern sensibility. His pieces fetch anywhere from $25,000 to $400,000 and adorn the estates, yachts, hotels and retail space of business moguls and Hollywood celebrities, such as Clive Davis, David Geffen and Robert De Niro.
    .
“One of the things we’re better than anyone in the world at is chairs,” says Pollaro, whose custom club chairs range from $25,000 to $60,000. “The way a human being interacts with a chair is something we spend a lot of time thinking about. We are experts at making a chair fit an individual person.” In addition to ergonomics, Pollaro says he gives equal consideration to satisfying his clients’ sense of style.
    .
“I still hand-pick every piece of veneer for every project we make,” he adds. His Union-based headquarters, a 15,000-square-foot space, houses more than 1 million feet of veneer, 150 solid wood slabs and 40 unique species of domestic and exotic hard wood, including Macassar ebony, East Indian rosewood and satinwood. There also are exhibition pieces that are immediately shippable, but Pollaro says, “99 percent of the pieces we make are client specific, environment specific, material specific, finish specific and fabric specific.”
Pollaro’s original team of two has grown to 28 — five in drafting and graphics, seven in finishing, with the rest building furniture — and still includes Marano, who is director of finishing operations and a loyal friend.
    .
“I love sharing in Frank’s vision,” says Marano, who met Pollaro in grammar school in Bloomfield. “It’s challenging, but very rewarding work. Frank always wanted to build the best furniture in the world, and it’s pretty amazing to think we’re actually doing it.”
He credits Pollaro’s success to “his incredible passion for making fine furniture” and his ability to delegate.
    .
“He trusts and appreciates his people,” Marano says. “The guys here are top-notch. He knows that he can hand somebody a job and they’re going to get it right.”Pollaro’s building days are long gone. Instead, his time is spent drafting designs and crisscrossing the globe, racking up 150,000 flight miles a year meeting with clients. “I go home and break big rocks into little rocks, that’s where I get my fun,” he says of the gratification he derives from his more recent hands-on hobby: landscaping the Los Angeles and Morristown homes he shares with his wife, Jennifer.

    .
These days, Pollaro — who has a two-year order backlog — has the luxury of being selective about the projects he accepts. That’s what makes his recent partnership with client-turned-friend Brad Pitt all the more intriguing.
    .
Brad Pitt called on Pollaro in 2008 to build a desk for the French chateau he shares with Angelina Jolie. During a meeting to discuss the desk, the actor shared a stack of his furniture sketches with Pollaro, who said the imagined pieces’ ultra-modern lines resonated with him.
    .
“These pieces have a certain motion to them or rhythm that I think is unique,” Pollaro says. The first Pitt-Pollaro collection, featuring a dozen items, was unveiled in November 2012 in New York. “I think it’s fair to say the pieces have received a warm reception from connoisseurs and collectors,” says Pollaro. “We’re receiving orders on these things from the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Far East.” Another 15 designs are in the works.
    .
Pollaro says he savors the challenge of turning his client’s thoughts into three-dimensional pieces, especially when they require a departure from his signature style. That was the case with a hulking Spanish Colonial table he was commissioned to create last year by the widow of California wine legend Robert Mondavi.
    .
“The only thing I collect more than wood is wine,” says Pollaro, who met with Margrit Mondavi several times in the Napa Valley to learn about Robert Mondavi’s passion for winemaking. Those nuggets about Mondavi and the principles of terroir guided Pollaro on the project to commemorate what would have been Mondavi’s 100th birthday.
    .
“One of the most prominent thoughts in winemaking is terroir. It means the soil, the microclimate, the growing conditions of a certain area, those components in the soil affect the flavors in the wine itself,” Pollaro says. From the aged Northern California claro walnut felled to build the enormous table — it is 5 feet wide, 15 feet long and 3 inches thick — to the 100 cork inlays outlining its perimeter, the Robert Mondavi Centenary Table pays homage to the winemaker.
    .
“Honoring Bob’s legacy timed to the 100th anniversary of his birthday was very important to me. Frank Pollaro … found a way to connect the most important things in Bob’s life with the Centenary Table: wine, food and friends and family,” says Margrit Mondavi, vice president of cultural affairs at Robert Mondavi Winery. “I couldn’t be happier with the finished piece.” Unveiled in June at the vineyard, where it is the tasting room centerpiece, the $75,000 table serves as the model for a limited-edition series of five dining room tables that Pollaro’s company will make.
    .
But long before he became a celebrity favorite — and certainly before he built furniture that commands prices higher than a Mercedes-Benz — Pollaro was just a guy from Jersey who loved to work with his hands. “I could never think about anything but making furniture. It was something I could control and make myself,” says Pollaro, who credits his junior high and high school woodshop teachers with inspiring his passion for woodworking and his parents for supporting it.
    .
“If I made a salad bowl on the weekend, my dad would get me and the salad bowl, and we’d go around to all my aunts and uncles and he would show off my creation,” Pollaro says. “When you’re a kid and you’re getting that kind of loving encouragement, it gave me the courage I needed to keep exploring.”

Wow. That video is just depressing. These kids are very strong and brave.

  • briseis

@Phool.: Good morning, phool. Again, thanks for the posts. I am most interested in the Maleficent tie-in products, but unfortunately most of them are too pricey for my wallet.

Trolls really going cray cray. Jared, clean up in all the aisles, please. I know he doesn’t really remove spams and vile posts anymore … but I keep hoping against hope.

Rose, I hope you are lurking, My sympathies and prayers are with you. Hope you post again soon.

When Angie promotes Maleficent and Unbroken, I would imagine these cray cray trolls would really lose it and try to throw everything at her including the kitchen sink. We would really give our fingers the workout with the scroll down key.

My best guess would be Hague. Pitt may be able to get rid of Jolie sooner than I’d though.
Meanwhile stuPITT is out partying like a younun’ looking goofy and smiling big for the camera and holding a women at a premiere closer than he ever hold’s joLIE. And if this is such a big deal hoo ha secret mission why drag 2 kids along. I can’t stand this woman.

Ho very well knows her days as a “movie star” are gone and that her faux foray into *directing* didn’t pan out like she dreamed.

Next step has been brought forward – enter the world of politics – from whence the devil will arise.

She has sold her soul – make NO doubt about that!
Have great mercy on those poor children.

  • 9 years a lurker

    @Angie and Brad beautiful love:

    Couldn’t have said it better.

It’s probably one of the toughest job to do. I couldn’t help crying my eyes out watching the video, let alone experiencing it first hand! I salute to you, a truly wonderful, remarkable woman-angelina.

Doesn’t it make one understand better why Angie doesn’t pay any attention to the tabloids? Enough said.

For all the twisted, negative people here, Horns particularly, shame shame shame. I won’t even bother to mention Karma to you, a total waste of time.

  • who

The video left me in tears. Heartbreaking. For a near-adult young man be so traumatized to regress to a childlike mental state, I can’t even imagine. I can’t imagine what these children have to deal with every day. It’s amazing to see how resilient children are.

Dis we pay for this charade. What on earth are our idiots in London up to wasting our money on a self important actress of little use to anyone other than herself.

She’s an actress for goodness’ sake, she’s not a head of state under terrorist threat.

Ok fair enough what she is doing, but why does she have to be screened from the public, what is the reasoning behind that ?

She’s an actress. Even our queen wouldn’t perform like this. I’ve lol over these pics.

Once again a great day to be a JP fan.

The henhags are spinning like tops to be as vile as possible and it is funny as hel l. Do you all really think that your attempts at being clever really go over as anything other than comedy? Sad, fat lonely trolls – just like your barren fat cow idol.

All the while the JPs are living their lives doing what they love and gaining more and more respect with each project.

There are people all over the world who admire what Angelina does and it just kills you all and there is nothing you can do about it but spew. It’s awesome watching you all flounder trying to come up with insults.

Don’t worry JenHens – I think you will be happy though. I hear the fat tick is going to the opening of an envelope this weekend. If you are really lucky she might mumble and stumble out a word or two for you to glom on. Hair. Carbonara. Yoga. Cake.

  • to hell

All that’s needed for propaganda to be effective is unenlightened dunces to believe it…and that’s where people such as JP fans come in.

  • Bella

@offtheproperty: That’s what you got out of that video? They are muslims? You f…. retarded selfish rich idiot. Go to school and never come back until you have learned something.

  • Angelic Angelina

After Angelina’s “humanitarian help” in Libya led to a revolution, that country is seriously F’d for the next 50 years. Libya has gone from steady progress/ modernization and a uniting with other countries in northern Africa under a so called “dictator”, to complete and total bedlam under western supported” Islamic rebels”. It has now been isolated and crippled making the picking of their resources by western corporations much easier.

Jolie and Hague hail anti-rape move
    ——————————————————-
    .
    28 March 2014
    .
The pair addressed a conference on sexual violence in conflict, organised in Sarajevo by Bosnia’s Defence Ministry, saying the “groundbreaking” policy should become standard for any armed forces serving in UN peacekeeping missions. Special Envoy Angelina Jolie said the initiative is “redefining soldiering in the 21st century”.
    .
Mr Hague promised the UK will support a planned training centre in Sarajevo for future military and police peacekeepers from the region.
    .
He added that rape is a cheap and devastatingly effective way to terrorise and displace a population and is being used currently in Syria, Central African Republic and South Sudan.
