What Brad Pitt and a Yale Economics Major Can Teach Us about Inbound Marketing
    ==============================================================
    .
Posted by Vee Tardrew 10 Sep 2014
    .
Have you watched the movie Moneyball?
If you haven’t, this will be a spoiler.
The synopsis is that Billy Beane (a failed ex-pro baseballer, played by Brad Pitt) is the GM of the Oakland Athletics. In the 2011 playoffs his team first loses to the Yankee’s and then lose three star players post season to free agency. Beane, deflated and with a comparatively scrawny payroll budget, sets about building a new team with the help of a Yale Economics graduate, Peter Brand. Peter, inspired by Bill James’ philosophy, developed a programme that determines a player’s value based purely on statistical input and ignores all subjective opinions. This is insulting to his traditional scouts who prefer to evaluate a potential players based on physical attributes (i.e. how they would sell to fans) rather than any actual talent.
    .
Based on Brand’s data assessments and predictive modelling, Beane acquires a team of otherwise ostracised and overlooked players that he can afford. His approach faces heavy criticism while his data-driven team initially struggles to find its feet early in the season. After internal disputes and reshuffling to ensure his plan is rolled out as intended, the A’s go on to set the American League record of 20 consecutive wins. And while his team doesn’t take the championship (not within the span of the movie timeline, anyway) Beane changed the view and methodology for many a great baseball team. At the end of the season he had a team that cost him $260,000 a game and had the same amount of wins as the Yankees who spent $1.4 million a game. And all thanks to data!
So what’s this got to do with inbound marketing? Quite a lot actually!
    .
4 Moneyball Lessons for Inbound Marketers
    ———————————————————————
    New Skills are Needed
    ————————————-
Billy Beane brought an Economics major to his table of traditional scouters in order to effect change. He offered a new perspective. He had skills that were completely foreign to the world of baseball and yet, when applied, changed their position for the better. An effective marketing team these days looks to fulfil skills across strategic, technical, analytical and creative roles. Don’t be afraid to look outside ‘traditional’ marketing roles to build out your winning team.
    .
Strategy is Aligned with Overall Objectives
    ——————————————————————
In the movie, the Oakland A’s needed to score at least 840 runs in the regular season to make it to the post season, while only allowing 645 runs to be scored against them. This ‘business objective’ fuelled their strategy to find the players that could collectively achieve the goals. Traditional marketers are renowned for crafting campaigns that do little more than ‘boost brand awareness’ or ‘grow reach’ and are seldom able to translate any results into tangible results that show impact on the bottom line. By aligning marketing strategy to your business goals you have a better understanding of what you are working towards and effecting stronger executive buy-in on marketing initiatives when they can see measured results.
    .
    Data Drives Better Decisions
    ———————————————-
The scouts relied on their intuition and superficial factors to make player procurement decisions. They believed in ‘what had always worked’. It was their go-to strategy and it was seeped in emotional and subjective opinion. When they dismiss Beane’s player choices, he turns to them and says, “We are card counters, it’s time to beat the casino.” He was relying on the data, and data alone, to uncover the players who would be able to achieve his goals. Modern marketers are most effective when they eliminate bias by turning to objective data to make decisions, evaluate progress and report on results.
    .
You Don’t Need a Big Budget to Win With Inbound
    —————————————————————————
The Oakland A’s were bottom of the log when it came to player salaries. They didn’t have the money to simply ‘buy’ the wins. And yet, by the end of the season Beane had built a team that delivered results on par with the top of the log at less than a fifth of the cost. By way of comparison, they were the SMB going up against the large, national or global brand that could afford to spend huge money on traditional advertising to build brand recognition and secure customers. The Internet has levelled the playing field (excuse the pun) dramatically and has created opportunities for business ‘underdogs’ to gain market share through strategic optimisation of their limited budgets. Use data to reveal where your marketing spend is working hardest for you and giving you the best possible ROI.
    .
    The Home Run
    ——————
Moneyball, or the methodology behind it, represented a fundamental shift in how baseball teams evaluated players. Comparatively, the Internet has changed the way people discover, research and purchase products and services. The inbound marketing methodology addresses these changes and makes it possible for businesses to attract, convert, close and delight customers through data-driven strategy aligned to overall objectives that delivers a better ROI, even with smaller budgets. Pretty smart, really!

Fiona Hodgson: Mass murder, missing loved ones, rape, grief, trauma. A terrible legacy in Bosnia.
    ==================================================================
    .
By Fiona Hodgson Published: September 12, 2014
    .
Project Maja was focused this year on building on the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) and the enormously successful Summit held in London in June. Seventeen of us went to Bosnia was to help with the refurbishment of a safe house for victims of sexual violence.
    .
Visiting Bosnia with Project Maja this summer we found a country that remains deeply divided. With youth unemployment sky-high and political progress stalled, the prospect of renewed violence lurks ominously in the background. The outburst of demonstrations in Sarajevo in February this year showed a glimpse of the simmering tensions that lie just beneath the surface.
    .
For many, it has been impossible to move forward. The brutal civil war of 1992-1995 has left in its wake many widows and wives of the missing, and although there are an estimated 30-50,000 women in camps who have been raped, there have only been a pitiful number of successful prosecutions.
    .
The terrible massacre at Srebrenica, where 8,000 men and boys were summarily shot, remains fresh in the minds of relatives. Many still wait for the bodies of their loved ones to be found, their grief compounded by the practice of Serb forces who bulldozed existing mass graves and then reburied many of their victims in an effort to cover their traces.
    .
The ICMP (International Commission of Missing Persons) mortuary that we visited in Tuzla contained 1,100 body bags waiting for identification. This is a long and painstaking process, as one body may be found in several secondary graves. The ICMP carries out their work with enormous professionalism. Families of the missing come forward to give information and blood samples – and the ICMP’s data base now holds around 90,000 blood samples. About 89 per cent of those missing have now been identified.
    .
Re-visiting Srebrenica, little seems to have changed there since my last visit five years ago, except for the extra lines of gravestones. We stood outside the battery factory, where many had fled during the war hoping for protection from the UN forces, while Hasan Hasanovic, his face etched with pain, recounted what had happened.
    .
He was only 19 at the time of the massacre and, like many of the men, had taken to the hills to try and get to Tuzla. He was one of the lucky ones who got through, but he got separated from his twin brother and father, and it was many years until he discovered where both had been shot. It was a harrowing and painful visit, but gave us a very real understanding of what had happened.
    .
Medica Zenica has a safe house for victims of sexual violence in Zenica, a town some 40 minutes outside Sarajevo. Here survivors can receive counselling, and group and family therapy. Medica Zenica also deliver vocational training for women and girls and have recently established a 24 hour helpline, in co-operation with the police, the first in Bosnia.
    .
Not only do they work with children, both survivors of violence and also street children, but with men as well, who have different psychological consequences from war. Their informal networks of women give support and they work to encourage women to speak out and be active in political parties. Due to demand the safe house is being expanded and the new building will contain a centre for children to receive counselling to try to prevent trans-generational trauma.
    .
Talking to Sabiha, the Director of Medica Zenica, known to many as ‘The Angel’, I realised that she was a refugee herself and a victim of the war, and that this was her way of trying to turn a terrible experience into something positive by helping others. We had two very happy days there helping with the refurbishment by painting rooms, and brightening up the yard outside with decorations on the walls, joined hand in hand with the wonderful children of Medica Zenica.
    .
We also heard a most moving account of how vital the work of the Centre was from a male victim of sexual violence. Everyone there spoke with such admiration of the Ending Sexual Violence Initiative, and the visit there earlier this year by William Hague and Angelina Jolie was clearly something unforgettable and life-changing for them all.
    .
For all of us who participated on the project, this was a wonderful chance to see how the Ending Sexual Violence Initiative impacts people at grassroots and thus how important and life-changing it can be. I have no doubt that the initiative will, in time, change lives for many millions of people across the world and we should all be so proud to belong to the country that has led the way.

Confessions Of A Fangirl: Celeb Spotting at TIFF 2014
    ==========================================
    .
Posted on September 15, 2014 by Merna Jibrail
    .
With the 2014 Toronto Interntional Film Festival over, all I can think about are all the actors I met and all the actors that slipped right under my radar. In the span of the three days I gave myself, I met most of the actors I wanted to meet, had some lovely conversations with some of them, and made new friends along the way. Here’s my TIFF 2014 experience.
    .
    Wed. Sept. 10, 2014: ’71
    ———————————————–
This was going to be my last TIFF-fangirling day, so I made it a point to end it with a bang — no, not in that way! Get your head out of the gutter! I wanted to meet Jack O’Connell, a.k.a. the boy that made us go, “I’m fu,cking Cook!” Having previously met the Skins star at last year’s TIFF (he was here to premiere the prison drama Starred Up), there was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to see him again.
    .
Thanks to a bit of help from Jack’s tweet, we had an idea of what hotel he’d be around. My friends and I decided to scatter ourselves around the hotel until one of us saw him.
One of my friends had texted “OMG, Here, Maybe” to me, which could have meant anything, right? Then she’d texted “COME.”
    .
Lo and behold, there he was.
We got to chat with him for a good give minutes, take some fantastic selfies (JUST LOOK AT THAT PHOTO) before letting him be off on his merry way.
    .
We were so happy. To think, our TIFF adventures we’re almost done and we’ve met almost every single one of the actors we cared about.
I should also mention that I randomly met Nikolaj Coster-Waldauor, as he’s better known as, Jaime Lannister from Game Of Thrones at the Trump Hotel:
    .
    STILL FREAKING OUT OVER HERE.
    Back to Jack O’Connell.
It was almost time for his premiere of ’71 and since I once again couldn’t get tickets for this screening, I chose to go wait at the “red carpet” at the Princess Of Wales theatre.
The red carpet was inside the theatre and was unfortunately for media-only, but that didn’t stop me from showing my support outside as he walked in.
    .
After he spotted me and four other fans cheering for him, he tried signalling something along the lines of “do you have umbrellas?!” to us because it was a rainy day.
    CUTE, RIGHT?
    .
But that’s not all. I called Jack over because there was a girl behind me who wanted to meet him, and he politely obliged. I slyly asked for another picture because he was in his suit, looking all beautiful. Could you really blame me?
    .
Then he told me he saw my tweets from earlier that day.
    I DIED.
And that’s the high note my TIFF adventures ended on.
    .
If you managed to get through this entire post, I congratulate you. And if you’re probably thinking “Wow, this girl is crazy,” I agree with you.
But to each their own. Besides, everyone has that one special person they would do anything for — whether it be the love of your life, an athlete, politician, musician, actor, etc.
But if there’s anything you take away from this post, I hope you understand the amount of time and patience it takes to be a fangirl. And luck. Lots of luck.
    XOXO,
    Fangirl Merna

I think she is starting the realize her time is up.
    …………………
I have to disagree, Aniston will never realise her time is up, she is as much of a parasite narsassitc woman as narcissists goes, she believes in her own paid hype, considering she still is in the industry more than two decades, still hasn’t mustered a decent nomination let alone worthy award for her acting skills, nor has she received any critical acclaim, nor single handle carried a movie in her name, yet she is still chugging along like a trailer trash on its last legs. Unfortunately, she has money to burn and no obligations or responsibilities like family and kids, hence her spending considerable amount so her own money on the fake Oscar hype for a movie that hasn’t even managed to get a distributor to take notice, this should tell us, she isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie smoldering bedroom pictures released for new film By The Sea
    ====================================================================

    .
The couple star in the 1970s film about a couple who travel round France together but begin to grow apart – what a contrast
    • .

    All very mysterious
When we heard Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie would be starring in their first film together since Mr and Mrs Smith – we knew it would be huge.
    .
And now the first stills from By The Sea have been released – and both halves of the Hollywood power couple look smokin’ hot.
    .

The pair play a husband and wife duo (how ironic) in the 1970s film, who are struggling to stay close as they travel round France together.
    .
In one snap, Ang is sat at the foot of the bed in a sheer black top, showing off just the hint of cleavage and her slim frame beneath.
    .
Brad meanwhile is sat at the top looking away, and we can see he’s got a moustache for this appearance – something we will try out best to accept fast.
    .
Another snap sees the actor – who plays Roland in the film – looking into the mirror at his wife’s reflection, as she lays back on a sofa with her hand to her head – clearly lost in thought or asleep.
The 70s fashion will no doubt see the newly married star looking as glam and elegant as ever.
    .
And a final snap shows Brad puffing on a cigarette as he chats outside to an older friend, hiding behind some interesting yellow-tinted glasses.
    .
    .
“I chose to set By the Sea in the 1970s, not only because it is a colorful and alluring era, but because it removes many of the distractions of contemporary life and allows the focus to remain squarely on the emotions that the characters experience in their journey,” Angelina told Entertainment Weekly.
The star reportedly scouted locations for filming on her honeymoon with Brad, and the pair have no doubt dropped their characters’ sombre personalities as they enjoy the start of married life together. By The Sea is set to be released some time next year.

Thoughts I Had…While Admiring the Beauty of Brangelina in “By the Sea”
    .

Here with some random thoughts on the just released new stills from the newest directorial effort of Oscar winner Angelina Jolie. EW received the exclusive pics (hence the magazine’s watermark on the photos) and a mini-interview with the writer/director/producer and star that pairs her up on screen with new husband Brad Pitt (their first on-screen partnering since the film that brought them together and launched a million tabloid magazine covers Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Set in the 1970′s, Jolie stars as a former ballet dancer travelling France with her American husband (that would be Pitt, naturally). Their marriage is beginning to show signs of strain and they find themselves drawn to the inhabitants of a small costal town on their journeys…and comedy ensues! (But probably not):

    .
Damn. I feel like they just announced this film was in the works and we already have photos after one week of shooting…and just three weeks after a super secret marriage? Beautiful, talented, and hyper-organized. That Jolie-Pitt household must run like a well-oiled machine. Which I guess it would have to considering how many children there are to juggle as well.
    .
I love that instead of going on a traditional honeymoon, Brad and Angelina chose to spend 8 weeks filming a domestic drama together. Apparently Angie’s calling it a “Workingmoon”. Ugh.
    .
God, they’re both so pretty. Just look at that face. If Madonna were singing about movie stars of today it would be, “Angelina: Gave Good Face.”
    .
I’m getting serious Sophia Loren vibes from Angie in this pic.
    .
Everyone is always complaining that Angie is a movie star without the movies to back it up. After the commercial success of Maleficent, could this be the critical hit that boosts her film legacy?
    .
Film about a failing marriage, starring Hollywood’s biggest real-life couple – is it too much pressure to already compare this to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
    .
Although the last time we had Angie in a lush European setting we got everyone’s favorite Musical or Comedy The Tourist, so…yeah, maybe too much pressure. I should settle for something in between the two.
    .
But how great would it be if Brad and Angie were both nominated for acting Oscars in the same year for the same film? Maybe throw Jon Voight in there too just to make it a complete family affair.
    .
Honestly, can we get Brad Pitt an acting Oscar already?! They can keep it on a separate shelf away from the producing Oscars and give Angie’s Best Supporting Actress statue some company. And Zahara, Shiloh, and lil Vivienne can dress them up in doll clothes.
    .
Sideburns, creepy sunglasses, and pornstache? Yep, this is definitely set in the 70′s.
    .
Although staring into that mirror, I half expect him to reenact the final scene in Boogie Nights. “I am a star…”
    .
Isn’t Mélanie Laurent in this as well? I want a picture of her, too! God, she’s so good in Beginners and Inglorious ******** (with Pitt!).
    .
I actually didn’t like Brangelina’s last on-screen pairing, but there was no denying their combustible chemistry. I’m curious if after almost 10 years together they’ll still be able to make that spark between them light up the screen. And I know we generally wait for an actual trailer before utilizing Yes, No, Maybe So, but I’m already a Yes…
    .
Universal is releasing By the Sea sometime next year (most likely in the Fall). But in the meantime, we’ll have countless red carpet and awards show appearances this season for both stars as Pitt has Oscar hopeful Fury opening October 17 and the Angelina Jolie-helmed Unbroken opens Christmas Day.

Depending if that invisible birthday gift of a yacht hasn’t turned into a heap of rust and is rusting away somewhere in the dockyards scrap heap, how come Aniston and her beloved fiancé Justin aren’t sailing away in it? Thanks for the laugh Troll, I knew things were dire, but didn’t realise they were this dire, that you’ve got yourself scrapping at the bottom of a yacht just to remain relevant to the JP’s LOL.

  • ndn

    Good morning JP fans!!!
    .
Finally we’re getting shooting pics…love this movie already…Husband and wife vacationing in France…problems and mystique pursued…can’t help of looking at the still when they are sitting on the opposite side of the bed…Angie can get into any character and it is so believable…if these two can’t exude sexual chemistry on screen then nobody can…
    .
Thanks Phool for the updates my friend…

  • BH

@Phool.: You may be right as she is dumb and clueless about her lack of talent. She will try to cling to it as much as possible. However the public is not buying it anymore. There sympathy card is not working anymore. She is a terrible actress and she always will be. Acting is a search for truth and an ability to
empathise with other people. Two things she is incapable of. Anyhow she does not want to be an artist, she wants to be a celebrity. That is her goal. She wants to be famous. Just the polar opposite of Brad and Angie. Have to say goodbye now.

  • lurker

Is it day 9 or 10 and cake has not been bought yet…it is way over stale now….Oh well…down the garbage can it goes….lol

  • Thinking thoughts

It would seriously be amazing if Brad was nominated for best actor or supporting actor for a movie directed by his Wife. I’m not sure but the ew article made it seem like Angelina’s character is the lead ?

  • Barbie and Kent

JJ site is for fans of Mr ans Mrs.Pitt only and only
Because looks like that their IQ is under 70 (or less) its pointless to go in argue with them
You can try, but if the person you’re arguing with is a fool, you will be hitting your head against a rock! It won’t work.

Brad’s pornstache is starting to skeeve me out a little bit…

You did mean Dumb as Rocks didn’t you LOL, she is one of those people who thinks going back to TV will be failure in her case, seeing that she had a decade or two to show her talent in movies and still couldn’t do it any justice, so back to TV will be humiliation as far as she is concerned. Unfortunately , if she shed listens to us , that’s the right place for her not throwing shad at her it’s just we know her limitations as an actress and to be honest they are “very limited indeed”, but she still wants to be known as a movie star and still can’t pass the first step to be one . So who are we to stop her. In TV, she got away with it amongst the assembled cast of 5 other actors and being married to an A-list star, but in movies you are on your own, the proof is in the pudding, she isn’t all that in the talent nor the looks department. Unfortunately, she has so many hanger-on friends that are hyping her non existing talent and looks , may they be from her BFF’s producer chick, Hair boy, Yoga girl, racist friend Handler, Huvane brothers and her fiancée Justin, who are just in it for themselves each and every one of them, fleecing her for their own financial and self publicity gain, but aren’t genuine enough of friends and confidantes to stand up to her and tell her few home truths for her to take notice, and tell her what a dire situation she really is in, if you have friends like these who needs enemies eh.

In the wake of anistonakis’ moviebombs: crime of life and stale-cake…
I read this renee zellweger (‘member her?) article that bizarrely describes what is happening to mrs chinny.
Strange foreboding perhaps? Hold on to your weave, anistonakis!

….Posted 08/25/09 | Hollywood Industry, Star reception, Us Weekly
Forty and Not-So-Fabulous: Jennifer Aniston vs. Renee Zellweger

2.) Renee Zellweger is FIGHTING LIKE CRAZY to salvage her rapidly sinking career.
Have you seen a good Zellweger film lately? Scratch that, have you seen New in Town? Because if you have (like me) then you realize how far her career has fallen. She’s pushing really hard for THIS WEEK’S film, My One and Only, to succeed: it’s currently on FOUR screens, but needs to do ridiculously well to go wider and avoid what would amount to a straight-to-DVD release.
Anne Thompson has a surprisingly good break-down of her star, the state of her career, and what she needs to do to cover — I recommend giving it a glance here. I love that she points to the fact that she’s ‘wrecked her face and never eats anymore.’ Importantly, her worth has sank to the degree that both New in Town and My One and Only had to seek foreign funding, and the latter has independent distribution. BAD BAD SIGN. What I am suggesting, then, is that the public nature of this romance — along with Us Weekly‘s convenient coverage of it — was orchestrated by Zellweger’s people.

Stop it. You’re gonna make the hens cry! At least Ticky can say she still eats…of course she threw Squiggy under the bus to explain her weight gain, but still. At least Renee Z has an Oscar. Ticky ain’t ever gonna be able to say that unless she kidnaps Putrid’s or Sandy’s…

  • IMO

I don’t think Mélanie Laurent is in this movie.

  • So stupid

    @IMO:
Yes, because Melanie Laurent needs to be in all scenes.
    That’s incredible.
I think some people never saw a movie.
    They only like celebrity B.S.

  • Mustache

    The mustache is awful.
Not a good idea at all.

  • Saffron

I was looking at Jolie Pas at IMDB to see if there were any “in development” credits.
    .
I know this has been posted before but it cracks me up. As in their lives, the two production companies are complete polar opposites.
    .
The embarrassment of riches on the Jolie Pas side is hilarious.
    .
    1. Unbroken
    2. By the Sea
    .
Then we have Echoooooooo Helloooooo Anyone There? No words necessary for these 2 losers.
    .
    1. The Switch
    2. Cake
    .
The Tick just needs to STOP. The human psyche can only take so much failure, shame and public humiliation before a person turns into a serial killer.

People magazine is such a tabloid now.

Didn’t People magazine report Mélanie Laurent was in the movie? People magazine is such a tabloid now.

  • Still no distributor for CAKE

Cake is still searching for a studio or distributor. Shot in just 25 days this spring, Cake marks Aniston’s fourth time at TIFF with a film. After its Toronto screening last week, she laughed and said, “Let’s hope the fourth time’s a charm!” It could be, but it’s one slice short of earning her the golden glory she craves.
