Tom Cruise Allegedly Wiretapped Nicole Kidman's Phone & More Revelations From Scientology Doc 'Going Clear'

The documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief screened at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival over the weekend and the subject of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman‘s marriage was brought up in the film.

There are scenes in the movie showing the 52-year-old actor praising church head David Miscavige and dancing at a Scientology birthday party.

The documentary describes how Tom and Nicole fell in love on the set of their 90s film Days of Thunder. Nicole was considered an enemy because her father was a psychiatrist, and Scientologists do not believe in the profession. As a result, Tom began drifting away from the religion. David set up a plan to get Tom back to the church, including making him paranoid about his relationship.

One member of the church said that Tom requested a wire tap of Nicole‘s phone because there were thoughts she was talking to non-church members about their issues. There’s also rumblings in the film that Tom and Nicole‘s kids, Conner and Isabella, were persuaded by members to turn against their mom.

Nicole and Tom split after 11 years in 2001.

The documentary touches on many other subjects pertaining to Hollywood and the religion – head on over to THR to get more info.

Your write up isn’t correct. The ex member Marty said that Tom “jokingly” said something and Marty took it to David and David took it serious. Is there anything directly said that Tom knew about this or was the one to request it? nope.

It’s sad that Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were in love (in real life, not for-publicity-love) and torn apart by his religion’s leaders. Kidman’s father is a well known psychologist in Australia. That’s a no-no for high profile scientologists. Cruise is by far the church’s most valuable asset and cannot lose him even if it means keeping him in the dark about the church’s abuses. Also it’s alleged they have damning evidence of John Travolta’s personal life. That keeps his allegiance to scientology in check. It is my hope that Cruise (and Travolta) will be freed eventually from scientology’s grip. Once Travolta’s son died and the rumors flew about scientology preventing treatment that could of saved his life steam shot through my ears… I honestly believe they are good, talented people who have been exploited/brainwashed for literally decades. They are famous stockholm syndrome examples. I think the first step would be an investigation. Scientology bullied the government into giving it tax-exempt status (since it’s a ‘church’) in the early 90s. I say knock those doors down and serve them a piece of paper.

Remember this kiddies. Scientologists are creepy.

why is this still news? there are so many crazy religious groups ALL OVER the world..just pick up a newspaper or go online and you see that for yourself. The stuff with Scientology is up there with loony but if people want to join a cult what’s the problem. You can’t stop people from gathering and joining up with cults. Tom and Nicole don’t have anything to do with one another. She’s happy and he’s happy. Why drag her and her family into this?

Can someone explain to me why this is a issue. This documentary sound more like Smear campaign against TC than the church. David Miscavige probably sitting back with his legs prop up on his desk thinking at least they are not hating on me like they are doing to him. When one person is the target of all the church’s hate as if he is the man in charge or the only member raise red flags for me. I really think TC is the real target here not the church. They’re a lot of actors in Hollywood that are members of this church that everybody support or like. You never hear anything negative about these other church member like you do TC in reference to this church. Most of the hate started after TC divorced NK. I believe NK is the one who kickstarted this and KH is finishing it.

I think it’s the press using his name too because they know they can get clicks.
The ex members also use his name now for the same reason–so they make it all about him. Name dropping celebrity. They’ve been at it for ten years though and no matter how much some haters want to say it has brought down his career, it hasn’t. Someone else posted this a while ago but I think it’s good to see that his box office has done just fine. It’s just that certain news outlets try to paint things in a negative light with him.

I recall Emily Blunt saying he doesn’t give a flip what anyone says about him and I believe it. He is over it. He has his success and just makes the movies he wants to now and enjoys his life.

It may be true it could be a lie who knows? But giving us directions on where to go to find out is almost like grooming us to attack Tom. Kinda mean

I don’t think NK is starting this, why would she?… she has a good life already, a nice husband and 2 beautiful little girls… She doesn’t need to worry about her past, I think all this campaign is not exactly against TC but the church… the thing is that he’s a popular active member and there’s a lot of stories around his past with NK that have many things to do with the church, in fact, the story about TC and NK is just a little part of this documental, they talk about a lot of people there, the reason why the media is focusing in TC’s story is because he’s famous and that will be good for the box office

Interesting that they did not connect NK’s father to the child sex abuse case in Austrailia.
