Plane Crash on Tom Cruise's Movie Set Leaves Two Dead

A tragic plane crash on the set of Tom Cruise‘s upcoming movie Mena has left two people dead and a third person seriously injured.

The accident happened on Friday night (September 11) in Medellin, Colombia and Tom was not on board the plane during the crash. Bad weather has been cited as the cause of the crash, which occurred on the side of the Alto de la Clarita mountain.

The two people that died have been identified as American film pilot Alan David Purwin and Colombian Carlos Berl. The third pilot, who was taken to the hospital with serious injures, is American Jimmy Lee Garind.

“An aircraft carrying crew members crashed while returning to Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellin following production wrap on the film Mena resulting in two fatalities,” a Universal spokesperson said in a statement (via Variety). “Further details are not available at this time. On behalf of the production, our hearts and prayers go out to the crew members and their families at this difficult time.”
