Olympic Skier Gus Kenworthy Comes Out as Gay

Olympic freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy takes the cover of ESPN‘s latest issue to come out as gay.

“I guess I should start by saying, ‘I’m gay,’” the 24-year-old athlete said to the mag.

“Everyone wears a Red Bull or Monster or Rockstar cap, a T-shirt and jeans and skate shoes,” Gus added. “Everyone drives the same type of car and listens to the same kind of music. The industry isn’t the most embracing of someone who’s different.
I’m nervous about that.”

“I want to be the guy who comes out, wins s— and is like, I’m taking names,” Gus added.

You may remember, Gus rescued a bunch of dogs from Sochi, Russia during the Winter Olympics.

What surprises me is that in 2015 anyone needs to announce that they are gay, or defend being gay.

If gay people want to be treated equally they should stop expecting special recognition when they come out to the world. Just come out and live your life. No need for a special magazine cover with your ‘poor me’ type of storylines. Guess what? We dont care.
