In X-Men: Apocalypse, we see that Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Nightcrawler help Wolverine escape from the Alkali Lake facility where William Stryker has been doing experiments on him. After he is freed by Jean Grey, Wolverine goes on a killing spree and murders the staff and guards at the facility.
The post-credits scene brings us back to the facility and we see all of the carnage from the earlier scene. A crew is seen cleaning up body parts and stuffing dead bodies into bags.
Next, we see as a man enters the facility wearing a suit and sunglasses. He walks through the hallways of the building and find a vial of blood marked “Weapon X” and puts it inside a briefcase alongside other vials. Marked on the briefcase are the words “ESSEX CORP.”
It is implied that the blood in the vial retrieved belongs to Wolverine and the Essex Corp clue hints that the man was sent by Nathaniel Essex, a villain also known as Mister Sinister who is obsessed with experimenting on mutants.
