Blake Lively Tells Off Reporter for Asking About Fashion at Variety's Power of Women Event (Video)

Blake Lively is a powerful woman and there was more she wanted to speak about at Variety’s Power of Women event than fashion.

The 29-year-old actress told off a reporter on the red carpet after she was asked about her go-to “power outfit” at the event on Friday morning (April 21) in New York City.

“Would you ask a man that?” Blake told the reporter, according to USA Today digital editor Maeve McDermott.

“Come on you want to talk about an outfit today? Come on what about building women up? Outfits? Would you ask a man that?” Blake said (via NY Daily News). “You wouldn’t ask a man what a power outfit was. I’m sorry.”

“But see, this is the moment where we become more aware, and that we change, and that we build women up. So, you can ask me another question,” Blake said in a short video clip from the moment.

Well when you’re mostly known for your red carpet fashion sense, what else do you expect, Blake?

  • Effy

that’s a really silly question to get offended over Blake. Choose your battles…

  • irena.bursova

Good for her and other women! It’s almost like we want to talk about our skills and activities, not just appearance..

  • Danae

It’s funny how it’s okay for actresses to enjoy the princess treatment in their prime time but as soon as the public loses interest, they try to show their “brains”, sensitive souls and immediately commence the charity activity. I guess it can be boring to answer ten thousand times the same question “what are you wearing” but honey, you’ve been pampered, your diamond ring is worth more than most people’s salary over 10 years and on the top of that, you’ve been paid well to walk that red carpet.

  • Delores Pauldo

    Agree!

  • Gigi

I see where you’re coming from, but for someone who is quite well known for her fashion sense, I honestly don’t think it was that off base of a question to ask her. There are some people who take great pride in what they wear and have certain outfits that make them feel more confident than others. I just think it’s a shame she wrote the question off the way that she seemed to, because fashion can be very powerful – they don’t call it a power suit for nothing.

If she didn’t want to talk about her outfit that’s okay, but get dressed up if you didn’t want any focus on what or who you were wearing? Why spend hours upon hours getting your hair and makeup done and putting on your designer clothes if you don’t want to answer questions. And if you were known for anything else even remotely successful than what you wear, then I’m sure the reporter would have asked about it.

  • plez

She became famous because designers liked how she she looks good in clothes not for her acting and certainly not for being a force in women’s rights.

Kudos to Blake. There’s time and a place for everything and event designed to celebrate women’s internal power isn’t the right place to talk ask about her favorite outfit.

These bitches, I swear. Just wait – in a couple years they’ll be complaining that no one asks them about fashion, and the attitude will be “would you ask A MAN for his political views?? don’t you think WOMEN want to be considered beautiful AS WELL??”. It never ends.

Impressive– Good going! Just because she has worked in the world of fashion, doesn’t mean that any event involving her should be about outfits, Maybe she has other views too,

  • persononhere

all she’s truly famous for are her chanel outfits and styling choices, so the question is perfect for her. she’s trying to show intelligence she doesn’t even have

    blah blah blah

because women are more interested in fashion than men..

  • Ugonna Wosu

Everyone wants to look good, that’s a dumb comment. That doesn’t mean it should be the focus of the event for you.

  • krtmom

Shut up and go raise your kids!!!

  • Ausangel01

It’s not dumb at all. She’s stated over and over how she loves Fashion so why when she’s asked a simple fashion related question, she gets all precious and snotty?

And I don’t actually understand why she was there in the first place.

  • Phil the Donahue

Bitches? Harsh words, sorry your momma abused you. It’s a woman’s event, maybe they should ask about what she’s doing for women’s rights?

  • Phil the Donahue

Huh, shouldn’t they ask about women’s rights at a woman’s event?

  • persononhere

not in hollywood, lots of gay and metro men

  • Gigi

Sure they could have, but that wasn’t the question that specific reporter decided to go with. You can think up should’ve, would’ve, could’ve scenarios all day, but that was the question they decided to ask. Considering the event was called: Variety’s Power of Women, it wasn’t that sinister of a question for a woman known for her strong sense of style to be asked.
