Fox's 'Rent Live' Will Air in Late 2018, No Talent Attached Yet

The upcoming live production of Rent, which will air on Fox, is set to late next year.

Fox Chairman and CEO Dana Walden says the network plans on airing the production in late 2018.

Marc Platt, who produced Wicked on Broadway and the movie La La Land, is producing Rent Live and he is also working on Fox’s upcoming live production of A Christmas Story.

“Honestly, Marc has really been focusing on A Christmas Story; it’s a big production to mount,” Dana said at Fox’s TCA panel (via EW). “He’s been working with Julie [Larson], and they’ve had some preliminary conversations, but haven’t gone out to any talent yet. Actually, we’ll probably think first about a director.”

Dana was asked if any of the original Broadway cast members will be involved in the production.

“I’m not 100 percent sure,” Walden said. “I know that the conversations Marc had are very much about celebrating the original and the legacy of Jonathan Larson, and whether that involves having one of the original cast members and incorporating that character into the narrative, I’m not sure yet, but I’d be excited about that.”
