Rob Lowe Talks Sobriety & Desire to Look Good with 'Men's Health'

Rob Lowe shows off his surfer side in this new feature in the January/February issue of Men’s Health magazine, on newsstands now.

The 54-year-old actor opened up about his sobriety, his desire to look good, and more. Check it out:

On his desire to look good: “Men deny having vanity – that’s the greatest vanity. Not me. I’m vain as fuck.”

On becoming sober at 26 and channeling that energy into fitness: “It became an outlet for all of the tension, stresses, compulsivity. I funneled the addiction, frankly, into that.”

On working out without music: “I like the forced mental solitude of it. Inevitably, it will force you to start working through things you’re not going to if you’re listening to Jay-Z.”

On the appeal of surfing as someone in recovery and obsessed with continuity: “You’re always chasing a high that you’re probably not going to ever repeat. Conditions change, so no waves ever just stay the same. Nothing can ever stay the same. Nothing.”
