Disneyland Still Set to Reopen April 1, Universal Studios Announces Theme Parks Will Stay Closed Even Longer

Universal Studios is staying closed for now.

The theme park announced on Tuesday (March 24) in a statement that the parks in both Hollywood and Orlando would be closed longer than the initial April 1 reopen date amid the global health crisis.

“We are extending the closure of Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood through April 19 as we continue to respond to current conditions and make the health and safety of team members and guests our top priority,” the Universal statement reads.

“This includes our theme parks and Universal CityWalk at both destinations. The Universal Orlando Resort hotels have also temporarily suspended operations. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as needed, based on guidance from health agencies and government officials.”

The news comes after a 34-year-old California man died after visiting both Universal and Disney World before getting coronavirus.

“We offer our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Ghazarian. We continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and remain in regular contact with health agencies for information and guidance.”

At this point in time, Disneyland and Walt Disney World are still set to reopen on April 1.
