Hal Willner has sadly passed away at the age of 64.

The record producer, known for his tribute albums and concerts, and longtime sketch music producer for Saturday Night Live died from coronavirus complications, Variety reports.

Hal had taken to Twitter on March 28 to discuss his diagnosis, writing, “In bed on upper west side” and “I always wanted to have a number one, but not this.”

He produced albums for Marianne Faithfull (who was also recently diagnosed with COVID-19), Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, and Lucinda Williams.

Hal was also the music coordinator on the Lorne Michael executive-produced Sunday Night (aka Night Music).

Hal had been working for years on a T. Rex tribute album, with tracks already recorded by U2, and more.
