Renee Fleming performs an emotional tribute to Senator John McCain at his funeral on Saturday (September 1) in Washington, DC.

The 59-year-old Broadway star sang one of the late senator’s favorite songs – “Danny Boy” – at his funeral.

While she was singing, John‘s wife Cindy broke down in tears and laid her head on son Jack McCain‘s shoulder.

John and Cindy were married for 38 years and share four children. The late senator lost his battle with brain cancer last Saturday, August 25.

During the funeral, John‘s daughter Meghan gave an powerful and emotional eulogy to her father.

Lindsay Mendez cannot contain her excitement while showing off her Tony in the press room at the 2018 Tony Awards held at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday (June 10) in New York City.

The 35-year-old actress, who has been a favorite of Broadway fans for years, won her first award at the event. She picked up Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her work in Carousel.

During her speech, Lindsay brought up how she was encouraged to change her name when she started acting, but she’s grateful to work in a community that accepts diversity.

They were joined by My Fair Lady‘s Harry Hadden-Paton, Once on This Island director Michael Arden, and The Band’s Visit‘s Ari’el Stachel.

Also in attendance were Carousel‘s Joshua Henry, Lindsay Mendez, and Renee Fleming, Summer‘s Ariana DeBose, and SpongeBob SquarePants‘ Ethan Slater and Gavin Lee.

The actors were joined by their co-stars Renee Fleming, Lindsay Mendez, Alexander Gemignani, and Margaret Colin.

The revival of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, featuring the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” just opened on Broadway and it has received the New York Times‘ critic’s pick.

“With thoughtful and powerful performances by Mr. Henry and Ms. Mueller, the love story at the show’s center has never seemed quite as ill-starred or, at the same time, as sexy,” the review reads!

Scoring great roles wasn’t always easy for Julianne Moore – she struggled for years!

“I could not book a movie,” the 56-year-old actress told Alexander Payne during a panel at the Holland Performing Arts Center. “I was like, a movie career is not going to happen for me. Movies in the ’80s were, they were doing things in the ’80s like, what’s that one with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover? ‘Lethal Weapon.’ Those were the years, ’80s movies were like that.”

“So I was not an ’80s movie person. I thought, well, I’m going to have a career in theater and maybe some television. Suddenly, independent film happened,” Julianne added. “It was like this whole world opened up. When those three movies came out at the same time, I went from being a TV actress to suddenly being a film actress.”

The classic musical Carousel is set to return to Broadway with an amazing cast attached!

Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller will play Julie Jordan alongside Tony nominee Joshua Henry as Billy Bigelow. Opera singer Renee Fleming will play Nettie Fowler.

Jessie is best known for playing Carole King in the musical Beautiful and originating the role of Jenna in Sara Bareilles‘ Waitress. Joshua is currently playing Aaron Burr in the touring production of Hamilton.

The revival of Carousel will open on March 23, 2018 at a theater to be announced in the future, according to the New York Times.

“It’s a very complicated, very rich, very spiritual tapestry about reconciliation and redemption and being responsible for what we do,” director Jack O’Brien said about the musical.
