Michael Sam and his fiance Vito Cammisano have split after a six-month engagement.

The 25-year-old openly gay football player has deleted almost all of the evidence of his relationship with Vito off his social media accounts. The photos deleted include the one of him proposing to Vito atop St. Peters Basilica in Vatican City.

“They’ve been rocky for months,” a source told Us Weekly about the couple.

Michael, who received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at last year’s ESPYs, recently competed on Dancing With the Stars.

Michael Sam gets down on one knee while popping the question to his longtime boyfriend Vito Cammisano in a brand new pic posted on Twitter!

“@Vitcamm Thank you for saying yes �’��’��’�,” the 25-year-old football player captioned the pic, which reportedly took place at St. Peter’s Basilica.

Vito also shared a pic of himself with the engagement ring and wrote, “😍�’�🙀.”

If you weren’t aware, Michael and Vito got engaged last week during a holiday vacation in Vatican City, Rome.

Michael Sam‘s boyfriend Vito Cammisano is showing his support for his man after he was cut from the St. Louis Rams following the pre-season games.

Vito posted this cute selfie of himself and Michael together on Twitter. They are both wearing shirts from the University of Missouri, where they both attended college.

Michael, who hopes to become the first openly gay NFL player, can still be picked up by another team by Sunday (August 31).

“I want to thank the entire Rams organization and the city of St. Louis for giving me this tremendous opportunity and allowing me to show I can play at this level. I look forward to continuing to build on the progress I made here toward a long and successful career,” Michael tweeted. “The most worthwhile things in life rarely come easy, this is a lesson I’ve always known. The journey continues.”

The 24-year-old football player, who is the first openly gay NFL player, received the Arthur Ashe Award for courage during the show.

During his speech, Michael thanked Vito saying, “People tell me that I’m their inspiration. Well you are my inspiration.”

“To anyone out there, especially young people feeling like they don’t fit in and would never be accepted, please know this. Great things can happen when you have the courage to be yourself,” he ended the speech.

Michael Sam and his boyfriend Vito Cammisano hit the red carpet at TAO Nightclub on Saturday night (May 10) in Las Vegas.

The 24-year-old football player was drafted by the St. Louis Rams that day and he will become the first openly gay player in the NFL.

New NFL draftee Michael Sam and his boyfriend Vito Cammisano quickly made headlines over the weekend when they kissed on camera after he became the first openly gay football player to be drafted into the league.

The 23-year-old, like his beau, was an athlete at the University of Missouri, where he was a swimmer.

“We are staying home! Could not be more proud of my babe! #stl #rams #missouri” Vito tweeted after the draft. “Wow.What a day. On cloud 9. So proud and happy! #stl #rams #draft @MikeSamFootball” Vito is such a supportive boyfriend!
